Can someone tell me what happened between Gore and Blackburn?
I'd really appreciate it. We're on dialup here and the headlines I've seen look positively delicious - but always lead to a video.

1. Blackburn suggested Gore was involved in the climate change
issue because of greed.

2. The best exchange:
(Rough transcript)

Congresswoman Asshat: I'm just trying to clarify these points for my constituents...

Gore: Everyone here knows exactly what you're trying to do, lady.

3. Blackburn insinuated that Gore was in his enterprise for the money
And, Gore did a virtual bitch-slap of her. When she said that she wasn't making accusations, just asking questions asked of her, Gore said that he knew exactly what she was trying to do, and so did everyone else in the room.

It is being replayed on CSPAN or CSPAN2, I'm sure, today. Happens at the end of the hearing. You can probably find a transcript of it at www.c-span.org with a couple of simple searches.

4. So far, the summaries you've been getting are a bit skewed.

6. The OP has dial-up and can't view videos. And how are these
responses skewed? :wtf:

9. Let's start here:
Did he really say, "Everyone here knows exactly what you're trying to do, lady."

No.

10. That wasn't in my summary, which was all that was asked for.
And I just bet Gore felt like saying that but he was too polite to do so.

13. The meaning of "Rough Transcript" is indeed mysterious
What Gore said:

GORE: I understand exactly what you're doing, Congresswoman. Everybody here does.

What I wrote:

"Everyone here knows exactly what you're trying to do, lady."

Get a life.

14. Click the link. Listen.
Your quote portrayed Gore as coarse and rude. The actual quote showed Gore to be quite in control of the situation.

15. What. Ever.
I consider what Gore said to be a direct reply to "Congresswoman Asshat". Much like this direct reply to you, as a matter of fact. My previous suggestion stands.

Good day.

17. Hey, thanks for the suggestion. I always appreciate constructive criticism. So, in that light...
... perhaps you can tell me what I can do to "get a life." Here's what I did today after responding to this thread:

  • Made breakfast for the kids -- not just mine: we had an extra crew this morning after a birthday slumber party.
  • Went to the library to get some books for one of the kids while her mom took her to the high school to get some swim suits (fire sale!).
  • Took a group of players to a soccer game, and coached them to a 1-1 tie.
  • Planted a tree and some shrubs that my other half bought while I was at the game.
  • Used the soil from the holes to fill some low spots and reseeded those filled areas.
  • Sent a check to my mom.
  • Took a short bike ride to celebrate this great weather!
  • Helped the youngest study for her science test.
  • Fed the dog.

What am I missing?

5. He also told her that every penny he has made has gone into
a non-profit, and that if she thought he had been doing this for 30 years for greed, then she didn't know him. (She's from the same state in which Gore lives.) He also asked her if she thought there was something wrong with people doing business in America, and that he was proud of everything he's done in the area of global climate change. She ended her questioning early and yielded back her time. Then, the Chair, Rep. Markey, basically put her in her place again, saying that he sat beside Al Gore when he was on the committee, that he's taking the same stance now that he took then, and that his integrity was beyond question. Blackburn left the room before the end of the meeting, which was about 5 minutes later.

16. She tried to insinuate that he was raising the alarm on climate b/c he's invested in green companies
She asked him if he knew of this company, and Gore said of course, I'm a partner. She then made her insinuation and Gore responded that every penny he has made from that investment went into his non-profit to raise awareness. Further every penny from the book and the movie went into the non-profit. She replied that she was just asking question raised by her constituents and he said he knew exactly what she was doing. Then he asked her if she was against business.
