8. 'Golden Girls' star Bea Arthur dies at 86
LOS ANGELES - Beatrice Arthur, the tall, deep-voiced actress whose razor-sharp delivery of comedy lines made her a TV star in the hit shows "Maude" and "The Golden Girls" and who won a Tony Award for the musical "Mame," died Saturday. She was 86.

Especially now.

Hey, she would be laughing.

7. I remember loving her character Maude when I was a young boy.
Guess it's no surprise I grew up to turn out gay, huh?

One of my favorite roles she did was a very, very small cameo appearance in Mel Brook's History of the World. She played an unemployment agency worker in ancient Rome. Out of work gladiators would step up to her window to collect their unemployemnt and she would ask them: "Did you kill this week? Did you TRY to kill this week?" She delivered that short, simple line as only Bea Arthur could.

19. I just told my husband the news about her passing. I've been miserable since I found out
When I was in college (early 90's) I was the biggest Golden Girl fiend in the world. I even got my roommate at the time hooked on the show.

No one could understand why two black girls barely out of their teens would be RUNNING, not walking, RUNNING to their dorm room to watch a show about four geriatrics living in Florida. That show was one of the best I've seen on tv and Dorothy was and always will be my favorite character.

Both of the Patrillos are gone! http://www.insidesocal.com/outinhollywood/,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,estelle.jpg

Good grief, why is this affecting me so much??!

20. Thanks for the memories
I love the Golden Girls still and have watched the repeats on Lifetime and now on the Hallmark Channel so much that I know the dialogue.

Within the past year we've lost Sophia (Estelle Getty) and now Dorothy (Bea Arthur)... no more Shady Pines, Ma.

You're both in Heaven.

RIP
