Karl Rove: "(W)e're going to turn ourselves into the moral equivalent of a Latin American country run by colonels in mirrored sunglasses. ... (T)hat might be fine in some little Latin American country that's run by, you know, the latest junta -- it may be the way that they do things in Chicago -- but that's not the way we do things here in America."
http://mediamatters.org/columns/200904240025This is what the Valech Report has stated as just some of the things that went on in the Pinochet regime when they captured someone who didn't agree with them:
* Repeated beatings * Deliberate corporal lesions
* Bodily hangings (suspensions) * Forced positions * Application of electricity * Threats * Mock execution by firing squad
* Humiliation * Stripping down to nakedness * Sexual aggression and violence * Witnessing and listening to torture committed on others * Russian roulette
* Witnessing the execution of other detainees
* Confinement in subhuman conditions
* Deliberate privation of means of existence * Sleep deprivation or interruption * Asphyxia
* Exposure to extreme temperatureshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valech_ReportNotice anything similar to what Pinochet did and the "enhanced interrogations" that Bush allowed?
But wait, there's more!
Then there was Pinochet's murders of dissidents outside of Latin America with his other dictator buddies in Operation Condor, one of these terrorist activities was only blocks away from our Capitol (Orlando Letelier) and the fact that Pinochet let a pedophile Nazi do some of the torturing over in Colonia Dignidad.
Anyone else get the feeling that Karl Rove has no idea what he is talking about?
