Secessionist Gov. Rick Perry asks for federal help to deal with swine flu.
Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX), who was last making headlines for suggesting that Texas may consider seceding from the Union, is requesting help from the federal government to deal with a possible swine flu pandemic:

Gov. Rick Perry today in a precautionary measure requested the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provide 37,430 courses of antiviral medications from the Strategic National Stockpile to Texas to prevent the spread of swine flu. Currently, three cases of swine flu have been confirmed in Texas.

3. just as Sanford in SC begged for FEMA help with a brush fire.
you dont get to pick and choose when you are going to be part of the Union and when you are going to cut and run. All in or out.

5. Typical.
Republicans who decry 'big govm't' are the first to run to mom when they lose a job or need any sort of help whatsoever. I saw a lot of elderly and people in wheelchairs at the tea parties and couldn't help but wonder if they had forgone Social Security or Disability.

9. I guess I see them as different.

Texas roads, Texas crime, Texas economy are all Texas problems and they can be on their own. No federal money for them.

Deadly virus crossing the Texas border, yes we want to help. Just tell us what you need. As a matter of fact I would PREFER Texas didn't try to handle this one all on their own. That seems reasonable to me.
If Canada had a deadly virus in it's borders I would want us to help. Or Cuba. Or Mexico.

12. To start with, I live in Texas
Secondly, I work in healthcare.
Yes, Texas needs federal funds for this. No doubt.
What we do NOT need is an ignorant dumbass governor who gets on national TV and makes a fool of himself by stating that "big federal government is bad...bad I tell you", then throws his hand out for any slice of American pie.
As far as the roads here...you DO realize that Texas is adjacent to Mexico and that NAFTA trucks destroy our roads? NAFTA is federal, by the way. So yes, Texas does NEED federal money for our roads.

14. I just got back from Texes.
My mom still lives there. I used to. I am guessing most Texans want to the federal government to stop telling them they have to let Mexican trucks on their roads.

8. Hey Rick, why don't ask some of those rich Texas secessionist's to
pony up the cash to buy some. You know, support privatization, stimulate economic business growth, free trade, keep government out of peoples lives. Oh and how is the budget cut your state reps gave you working out?

13. Not surprised at all, but...
... I'd appreciate it if any "hahahaha-stupid Texans!" talk could be kept out of this. Most of the state didn't vote for Gov. Goodhair (state law only requires a majority, not 51%) and I can probably guarantee you that none of the DUer Texans did.
