Why I hate Republicans at all levels of Government
Edited on Sun Apr-26-09 10:35 AM by AllentownJake
I'm helping a local candidate run for county commissioner in my area. As part of this I generally go to the candidate forums with him. At my last candidate forum, I went to the conservative township in his district. Not really up on their local issues my eyes were wide open to GOP evil in ways it never has been.

The chief issue in any election in this township for the past 10 years is whether they should get a police force. The township used to be a farming community but in the past 20 years has evolved into suburbia. Due to their farming roots the State Police patrol the area at no expense to the township. Its an arrangement my state has made with rural communities so each community doesn't have to have their own police forces.

Well, in the past 20 years the township has grown from a township of around 5,000 people to about 25,000 people. The chief reason, they have no property taxes.

These people are not willing to pay their fair share. If the state tries to make them pay for the state police the repukes in the state house block it because its such a solid repuke district, if someone suggest they have their own police force they revolt because they will have to increase their taxes.

Meanwhile every other township in the area has their own police force. The selfishness of the citizens and their representatives in this township is fucking mind boggling. Everyone else in the damn state is paying for their police force and the idea of them paying their fair share infuriates them.

One last thing the median income for families in this township way above the national average...like WAY ABOVE!

1. Perhaps you can find local reporters who would write on this topic, then you and others can write
LTTE on the subject. If these people were exposed to neighboring areas and the state in general, they might just lose this little luxury at everyone else's expense.

I'm helping my friend's campaign. He has to minimize his loss in that area and while its an issue he would never have to vote on, the local organized fundies there would get involved in the race over that issue.

I'm going to write my state legislator who also represents that distric though to get a response on record.

3. No property taxes?
How do they pay for schools? Fire departments? They're freeloading off the rest of the people in the state. But I'm sure they look at it as part of some rugged individualistic b.s. floating around the gop.

7. That's the way they look at it
They collect all their revenues off of the EIT (Earned Income Tax) which everyone pays in PA and a portion goes to the state.

4. Just like Democrats, all Republicans are not the same.
But a number of them don't want to pay any taxes no matter what, and that's their overriding issue. The poor could just lay down and die by the side of the road. Kindergarteners would have to pay tuition. Every single highway could be turned into a toll road. House on fire? Good luck with that garden hose. On and on, anything whatever would be just fine if they didn't have to pay any taxes.

9. Let them all move to Texas,
Let them secede, build a wall and be done with it.

10. Hell no.
Texas is part of the USA. If they don't want to be part of the US anymore let them go someplace more to their liking.

6. I agree with you
The republicans here only obstruct and complain. They were out in force for those stupid teabagging rallies.

Our governor is the third most popular in the US and is ready to be named a cabinet member yet they never say anything nice about her. Because she supports upholding the law that allows abortion, they call her a baby killer.

They don't support education or health care.

They want to build dirty coal plants in western KS that will sell the energy they make to Colorado.

They are trying to put an abortion doctor out of business because he abides by the law.

They just hate.

I am sick to death of their crap.

8. I also want to add that all their commissioners were republicans
till their was a giant embezzlement scandal where the local repiggies had embezzled $11,000,000 off of the township over 5 years. A court had to interview and appoint temporary commissioners because all the old commissioners were under indictment for embezzlement.

The sad thing is, if another election was held with the embezzlers and the appointed commissioners, it would be a close race over the tax issue.

My heart breaks for Kathy. These fuckers are evil.
