10. We both see the reality of how Obama will handle this.
And you have little doubt either.

Call it what you will, but the reality is quite clear
to those who will let themselves see it.

Keep posting what you see. You are right on.

24. Don't be dense. You ascribe one meaning and harp on that. DISTRACT the public?
Distract attention?
Distact efforts?
Distract pressure?

Obama doesn't get distracted or drop the ball.
He does his job.

32. It doesn't have to be a conspiracy in order to distract.
I think it's important that we be kept informed about the swine flu, but I do hope we can multi-task and not lose site of other important issues. However, if it does become a pandemic, then I think we should be focusing on that and putting the torture issue aside for a while. As long as we come back to it once things have returned to some level of normalcy.

Are you suggesting our government should ignore a health crisis or it is manufactured? Not sure I understand the meaning of your question.

20. Maybe for a moment or two but not long-term.
Once the conversation begins about the torture of other human beings, it becomes a kind of global conversation.

Porter Goss would not be squawking as he is unless there was some (potentially) high-voltage revelation he would prefer us not to know about.

Ditto Uncle Dick.

We don't know all the specifics just yet but the stench of betrayal is more acute the closer to Bush higher-ups we get.

26. I think it totally depends on how it plays out
will a full-scale pandemic distract the public? Probably. Everybody will be too sick to care for a while.

If it fizzles out as a pandemic, then it will be a temporary distraction and then back to business. In that case, it will be up to those who care to 1. not feed into a potential "Obama is chicken little" meme, and 2. bring torture back to the top of the list of priorities.

Personally, when I read articles giving it a 2-9 day incubation period, I was concerned. 9 days is a long time for people to be wandering around spreading something.

The short incubation they announced today cuts the spread time dramatically, and I think that alone will limit its ability to bring about a full-scale pandemic.

But that's just my thinking. I still plan to avoid my chemistry presentation partner who chose last week to go to Mexico on vacation. :)

... and so can his staff.
