(they were Shriner's as well--which requires one attain a certain high level in Masons to join).. The masons are secretive,or at least private, but far more mainstream than many realize.

The Shriner's have done tremendous good in their civic work, especially their burn hospitals where no one is charged. Unfortunately, in this current horrible economic climate, many are having to close.

11. Put out your thumb, forefinger and middle finger.
Screw around with them until you get a right angle in the place between your thumb and index finger.
Then a 60* angle between your middle and forefingers.

Look at the angles in that. :P

Everyone's got an angle. For some people it's sex (think sextant) and for others it's being right all the time.

There are six sexes. Have you ever wondered why there are six degrees of separation between any two people in this world? Did you know that it's possible to described the place of everything with 6 pieces of information?

Six sexes, in Latin six was both the word to cut and six. Why would we call it sex? Oh because it means to cut. How many lines do you need to cut a circle into right angle triangles. 2.

You see this is why the Egyptians built triangles with 90* bases:

The Pyramid on top of the Washington Monument is the same kind of pyramid.

On the other hand, in our state, we have a weird memorial for war victims. It's like the Washington monument, but with ONE big difference, it's a pyramid base on 3 60* angles.

One's a lot higher than the other. Remember, the mile high city.

In our state seal, there is the eye of providence. Not in any other state. The seal of the USA has the same thing going on too.

If you're going to cut a circle into 60* angles, how many lines do you need? 3.

GLBT and str8 women are cool. The dickheads, aka str8 men will not be.

20. Dude. Step away from the bong.
And your etymology is wrong: "Sex" is from Middle French sexe < Latin sexus (“‘gender’”). Thought to be connected with Latin seco, secare (“‘divide, cut’”) by the concept of division, or 'half' of the race. The Latin word for six is sex, but the word for sex as in gender comes from the Latin word for "divide." In other words, "sex" as in gender is not related to the number six.

And you really shouldn't be smoking so much pot in the middle of the afternoon.

You all call me crazy because all you're seeing is my thoughts, not me personally. I'm actually quite calm, and relaxed. Well, except for when you call me nuts. It does make me uneasy then.

8. In general, no. The Freemasons originated in England during the 18th century.
But I believe a separate Freemason group for African-Americans was formed later on because they weren't accepted into the main groups. They still don't admit women. But it's basically just another social club, like the Elks and the Moose.

7. Wow... your childhood friends must have been something...
Shriners are Masons that have reached a certain level. Here's what they do in their "tree house": :eyes:

Shriners Hospitals for Children is a one-of-a-kind international health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing specialty pediatric care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs.

Children up to the age of 18 with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate are eligible for admission and receive all care in a family-centered environment at no charge – regardless of financial need.

You can either steal money from people like corporations do, or you can ask for donations. :P

This whole evil murderous capitalist system is deformed. So was communism, but Scandinavian social democracy is OK.

Growing up I have three best friends, they were like destined to meet me. One of them went off the deep end into religious shit, but now I know why. She was gathering the knowledge I'm going to need to help you guys. Right now I can only begin to help you guys get what's coming. Basically, the caretakers of our species are coming to help us out. I know not exactly why.

I just blew her ass off as pushing bullshit religion on me, but the thing is she knows what I have to know to teach you guys.

The weird myths of the world are not myths, but are uninformed interpretations of events.

We're a big cargo cult, basically. Well, I'm the one who figured out that it was a plane, nothing more.

35. I grew up in a masonic houshold
Edited on Sun Apr-26-09 04:34 PM by juno jones
Went thru Rainbow Girls and Job's Daughters, was a member of White Shirine and Eastern Star for awhile.

Actully I've never figured out what the 'scary scary' was about it other than the secrecy, 'cause a vast majority of the people involved aren't interested in the esoteric meaning of it, nor are they angling to take over the world or anything. It's just a vaguely religious social thing that gets them out and excercises their memories from time to time.

Oh and lots of green bean casserole at potlucks.

Personally, I was leaning toward being a witch, reading books about the history of magic, witchcraft, mysticism (not an easy feat in the 70's) by the time my mom had me join Rainbow at 13. Much of the symbolism wasn't lost on me and I'm sure it helped give me a taste for the Western Meditational path that I still pursue today (kaballah, etc).

On the other hand, playing pool incessantly in the masonic hall's downstairs game room made me quite good at that as well. I love going to bars and showing up my friends. :)

There are some interesting characters out there like Sam Webster (whom I have met) who have become masons after studying Tibetan Buddism and Western Ceremonialism. Some of them have written papers availible on the internet comparing the various systems.

Freemasonry is simply an extension of Western Meditational technique, one of the few ways it managed to survive such delights as the inquistion. There can be 'bad masons' and 'good masons' like anything else. Most are harmless.

PS: It beats the socks off of being raised in a fundie family.

39. I think the weird stuff witches claim to do is real.
It's just non-understood science. So people come to the conclusion it's magic:
1. When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.
2. The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.
3. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

I'm betting that the first key I figured out is not enough.
