Hannity Consents to Be Waterboarded
Hannity Consents to Be Waterboarded
Category:
Posted on: April 26, 2009 9:23 AM, by Ed Brayton

Sean Hannity says he'll be waterboarded for charity and Keith Olbermann calls his bluff, offering $1000 for every second that Hannity lasts while being waterboarded. Yes, Olbermann has his self-righteousness in full flight during this segment, but he's still absolutely right on the substance. I'm willing to bet Hannity bails on the idea. Video below the fold.

3. It doesn't matter if Hannity is crying like a baby afterwards
He will still say it was ok for us to do it.

Hitchen's got waterboarded before it was "in vogue". I don't agree with half of Hitchens' politics, but he said it was torture.

4. It's got to be rigged if he is consenting to it.

Particularly if it will be carried on the ClusterFox Network.

7. He hasn't accepted Keith's challenge...
Hannity just ran his mouth, is getting called on it, and the ball's in his court.

Keith was smart enough to lay down some conditions so it couldn't be rigged. An independent camera crew and waterboarder acceptable to Keith.

12. He should let a SERE instructor do it
That way, he gets CLOSE to the real experience.

8. I think Hannity will go through with it
Far beyond that, he will then tell the world that, yes, it was torture.

Keith will gladly pay up. There has never been any doubt in my mind that he would fulfill his part of the deal, either way. He may be blustery and pompous, but Mr. Olbermann has a sense of public honor that is all too rare in modern pundits, which is why we love him. Keith is willing to donate a chunk of change to charity; is Hannity willing to make good?

For those who are ready to "tear Dogmudgeon a new one" for thinking that Hannity would do something that is morally right, let me point out that it will give him a tremendous boost in his cred, a thing beloved of the press serious and trivial. It will also establish him as a bona fide "edge" journalist. (And if you are ready to "tear Dogmudgeon a new one" for speaking ill of Olbermann, relax: I admire him for these very reasons, sir.)

It has worked out that way for Christopher Hitchens. To which I say: good for Hitch. He's been a big-mouthed ass for a long time. But he put his money on the table. I may not agree with him a whole lot more, but I respect him for looking that political dragon in the mouth. And he is not over the experience yet, either. But no one will be able to argue with him that waterboarding is a trivial experience -- ever.

I will not begrudge Sean Hannity his due, either. It is long past time that the conservatives confronted the reality of their ideology. If it takes "torture tourism" to do that, I'm okay with it, and I'll give Hannity props for it ...

... if he actually goes through with it. And I think he will. But I have been wrong before.

--d!

9. What a fucking atrocity.
Hannity is essentially mocking those who were waterboarded by pulling this stunt. Fuck him. I hope he drowns.

14. It's been several days
since Keith did his throwdown and not a peep out of Hannity. Nothing. Silence. Not a word.

I bet Hannity is regretting that he offered that, and now he's stuck. KO nailed him immediately, which was essential, and now Hannity's cornered.

I don't care if he's waterboarded or not. I'll just be happy with the public humiliation and how, I presume, KO will pillory Hannity without mercy, sort of like his ongoing hammering of Bill-O.

I can live with that ........

16. This is only valid if Hannity didn't know it was coming/ thought he was rendered to the Middle East
left naked for weeks in his own feces/hung with his arms pulled up behind him for weeks at a time until left with permanant disability in both arms, told his children are in the next room being repeatedly raped/told his government has abandoned him/had electrodes strapped to his wet genitals while blindfolded and repeatedly slapped/waterboarded 183 times within a couple months and forced to confess to all sorts of pedophilia, homosexual acts, the murder of Jerry Falwell, that GWB's kids are actually Laura and Hannity's love children, and that he personally plotted with Osama bin Laden to bring down the towers.

Then he can come and give us all a report.
