3. But its OK that we import their meat and Veggies
Publix supermarket on the meat packages it says From Mexico, Canada or USA. We don't know which it is. I buy elsewhere. USDA only. Even that may be suspect.

6. For AOL'ers: Source may be US Hog Facility in Mexico
Edited on Mon Apr-27-09 07:38 AM by Chiquitita
It looks like the vector may be flies on untreated swine feces. The community in Mexico around the Smithfield owned Hog farm has been requesting an inquiry...

http://themoderatevoice.com/30074/source-of-swine-flu-m... /

"A publication called Grist is reporting that the swine flu outbreak may have been triggered by poor hygienic practices at the Perote, Vera Cruz, Mexico hog farming facilities of Smithfield Farms. Smithfield Farms is the “world’s largest hog producer and pork packager”:

On Friday, the U.S. disease-tracking blog Biosurveillance published a timeline of the outbreak containing this nugget, dated April 6 (major tip of the hat to Paula Hay, who alerted me to the Smithfield link on the Comfood listserv and has written about it on her blog, Peak Oil Entrepreneur):

Residents believed the outbreak had been caused by contamination from pig breeding farms located in the area. They believed that the farms, operated by Granjas Carroll, polluted the atmosphere and local water bodies, which in turn led to the disease outbreak. According to residents, the company denied responsibility for the outbreak and attributed the cases to “flu.” However, a municipal health official stated that preliminary investigations indicated that the disease vector was a type of fly that reproduces in pig waste and that the outbreak was linked to the pig farms. It was unclear whether health officials had identified a suspected pathogen responsible for this outbreak."

11. You cannot get swine flu from eating pork, according to CDC.
Having said that, buying USDA is ok, as long as you realize that only a small percentage of our food is actually inspected.

5. Most of the people who have it went to Mexico and brought it home with them.

8. It's All Over (Or Will Be) Hate Radio...
Edited on Mon Apr-27-09 07:38 AM by KharmaTrain
C-SPIN was sure to make a big deal about how this is spreading from Mexico and (hint hint) must be tied into "illegal aliens". Damn right this is fodder for the hate mongers...they've long claimed (Lou Doobies) that those riff raff that sneak in were carrying all sorts of diseases and now we'll hear how "we were right". Just another reason to repackage their racist bullshit...

Clue to humanity: influenza has been around longer than man has and somehow we've managed to survive. But the corporate media has already hit the panic button...damn I already feel sick... :puke:

On Edit: Yep...some wingnut already has jumped in...calling this matter a "terrorist attack" by Mexicans. Sheesh....

10. Mexican citizens of La Gloria are fighting back (¡Viva Veracruz!)
The Veracruz-based paper La Marcha has the story today: http://www.marcha.com.mx/resumen.php?id=2128 30% of the population of La Gloria has been affected.

Here's a translation of a sample paragraph:

He said the citizens of the region had already presented the appropriate complaints, but federal authorities have not given the issue attention and, rather than getting federal support, they have been threatened by employees of Carroll Farms.
