Just got off the phone w/ my wife who works at World Financial Center. She said there's an emergency w/ a low flying plane. They're evacuating. I'm not near a tv. Anyone hear anything?

She said it was very scary. A Korean Air plane was flying low and being lead by a helicopter. They ended up not evacuating. Freaked everyone out.

7. I was out for a run on the BPC Esplanade

and saw the passenger jet (Korean Air?) make a VERY low south -> north pass over the harbor and then up the river alongside BPC, then make a steep climb to the west over the Goldman Sachs tower in Jersey City. It continued west and south towards Newark Int'l Airport and then circled around and repeated the whole thing. I watched this happen three times in a row. And while there are always copters in the air down here, it was a fighter jet (black/red) that was escorting/chasing the passenger plane.

Hope everyone's alright. Scared the shit outta me.

10. Could you clarify if you think the fighter jets were "chasing" as opposed to escorting?

The F16 - and I saw only one - was flying off the 747's left side and trailing it somewhat. Perhaps "accompanying" might have been a better choice of words. At the time it was hard to make sense of the entire scene.

WASHINGTON -- A plane circling Lower Manhattan escorted by two fighter jets is part of a "photo op," said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jim Peters.

Mr. Peters said the Defense Department is conducting a photo op that involves deploying two F-16s and escorting a Boeing 747 in the vicinity of Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.

Around 10 a.m., the jet flew low over the Hudson River and circled several times, causing some evacuations of office buildings in Lower Manhattan and Jersey City, N.J.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said it had no knowledge of the exercise.

Mr. Peters said the maneuver isn't an emergency and was coordinated in advance with the FAA and state and local officials. "They'll do two or three spins…and be done by 10:30," Mr. Peters said.
