New York Times is so fucking stupid ...

Great Reporting -- Maybe - But what is to be gained by exposing 'BONDAGE' apparel makers in Pakistan?

NY Times is a great newspaper - but I think they are being a little stupid in reporting this story that probably endangers some nice guys.

Read for yourselves.

<snip>
If the bondage business seems an unlikely pursuit for two button-down, slightly awkward, decidedly deadpan lower-class Pakistanis, it is. But then, discretion has been their byword. The brothers have taken extreme measures to conceal a business that in this deeply conservative Muslim country is as risky as it is risqué.

1. Why are you blaming the paper? These men gave the interview and...
I am sure they signed off on it or the Times wouldn't have used it. I don't understand your reaction at all.

5. Maybe they think all that free advertising is worth the risk.
They clearly knew they were being interviewed and seemed to be having a great time showing their line and explaining their mission statement.

4. Well some of the most buttoned down folks would really
surprise ya as to how kinky they are.
It is also a bad thing to expose these two guys who provide a service if their exposure will cause them to come to harm.

6. Looks like they're looking to leave Karachi anyway...
since they've been threatened so many times and have to bribe the authorities with or without Times coverage.

They miss their Mushareff and are halfway out the door.

7. Interesting story -Times didn't act poorly
Obviously, the whole secrecy angle was overblown. I can understand workers not quite getting what a ball gag is for, but corsets and spanking skirts aren't that hard to figure out. That they pay "protection" money is another clue that their secret is anything but. Additionally, they travel to conventions AND agreed to talk to a western reporter. They are probably right that promoting their business too loudly in the area they live in would be dumb, but geez, they are talking about moving to another country for lower labor prices anyway.

8. Pakistan, Sex Secrets, 9/11 and Democrats...
Edited on Mon Apr-27-09 07:30 PM by captainjack08
A quote from that article...

"But fear after Sept. 11 raised suspicions among their own Western clients. On Sept. 12, 2001, a customer sent an e-mail message with a photo of two F-16s flying over Pakistan. Orders were canceled.

Today, they sell their products to online and brick-and-mortar shops, and to individuals via eBay. Their market research, they said, showed that 70 percent of their customers were middle- to upper-class Americans, and a majority of them Democrats. The Netherlands and Germany account for the bulk of their European sales."

Pakistan, Sex Secrets, 9/11, Democrats, air traffic controllers, the Netherlands and Germany. Pattern recognition overload... man, that was a loaded "fluff" article. Does the New York Mimes ever say anything to actually inform the American people about anything any more? Do Americans really give a shit about guys in Pakistan making kinky leather underwear? No, we care a bit more about Wall Street crimes and resolving that Torture shit that just got sacked by Pig Panic.

Now if I were going to be conspiratorial I might make an educated guess about why the New York Crimes war hustlers might be writing an article about this... most of which i won't get into...

But how exactly would these guys in Pakistan know the majority of their customers are Democrats? And why are we being told this? When you order a dildo, whip and leather thong online is there a checkbox that says []American Democrat and []American Republican??? So the important thing is WHERE DID THESE GUYS GET THAT INFORMATION? Maybe back in 2001 right before 9/11 Gary Condit bought some leather from these guys for his "Gay Biker Rides."

Pakistan, Germany and Netherlands S&M ties that bind...

I find it interesting that Pakistan's intelligence funded the 9/11 hijackers
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2004/jul/22/usa.september11

...German intelligence and American intelligence did nothing to stop them. Were they blackmailed?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Able_Danger
http://www.historycommons.org/context.jsp?item=a00stopmonitor

...and Rudi Dekkers, the so called "Magic Dutch Boy" ran a computer company in the Netherlands before running a flight school in Florida where the hijackers trained
http://www.historycommons.org/entity.jsp?entity=rudi_dekkers_1

Now if I was a Kooky Conspiracy Theorist type I might say there is some type of meaningful pattern in all of that. that maybe the New York Whines is trying to tell us something on the sly... or tell someone else something on the sly, or certain underlying connections might be floating to the surface?

But looking too deeply at why the USA is so fucked would make me a Kooky Konspiracy theorist. Sheep aren't supposed to ask those type of questions or see patterns in things... after all they promise us that although we think we are seeing patterns... they are not connected.... there are no underlying conspiracies.

Whoah, whoah, whoah!!!Where's Jesus!?

Jesus says there are no conspiracies. Ok, I feel better now.
