Two co-workers. Both "Republican" are talking near my cube...not purposefully as so I would overhear but loud enough to talk.

One a complete ditto-head. Every time he opens his mouth in front of a "liberal" (and at my office there are plenty of us) he walks away in a huff because he gets schooled so incredibly easy...his sources suck. Stereotypical ditto-head demographic. Male, white, divorced after 2 months of marriage a few months ago, in his early 60s, no kids. "Fiscal expert" who has had to declare bankruptcy...twice.

The other a sort of "young republican." I get a Mormon vibe from him. Not totally negative, but still willing to take things with a grain of salt and knows when he's being a total hypocrite without constant repetition.

The older ditto-head starts jarring on about Obama, and his guns, and Socialism, and Marxism. At the mention of Marxism the younger one asks if the older one knows what Marxism is. The older one starts yammering about communism and socialism and Rush's jism...but the younger one just sort of nonchalantly pointed out that Marxism isn't a political system. It's just a method of political analysis.

The ditto-head just didn't have a comeback. He changed the topic to work and continue to yammer about something he actually knew about.

Seems to me that "conservatism" is gonna be changing in the next 20 years. As soon as Rush goes away and his crazy army of malcontents start dying off (and they aren't leaving heirs...call it inability to mate or at least to pass on their "wisdom") it's gonna be Meghan McCain's group's game.

Methinks a certain part of the Democratic party is already in line with their beliefs.

1. As usual, they'll be right behind
the Democrats. Watching how younger voters worked for Obama's election had to make them aware of how bereft they are, not just of ideas, but of young followers who have beliefs they're willing to work for, beliefs that make sense and will inspire others is going to force them to change.

Right now, functionally, except for their obstructionist bullshit in Congress, there is no Republican Party. Their tired old rants and notions, which always reeked of the 19th century, have now been thoroughly repudiated by the voters (see November 4, 2008), and they have absolutely nothing.

Nothing.

So they'll have to adapt, but I don't see Young Republicans in the numbers that are anything like the Democrats have...................

2. Conservatism
or Republicanism has to change or it will be dead in the water within 10 years. The average age of the Rush dittoheads is well into the 60s. The new generation is taking over and there is not a damn thing they can do about it. The more they scream and shriek the more they turn people off.

They won't go quietly but they will go. They lost big time during the past 2 election cycles and will probably lose again if they can't come up with something other than anti-gay, anti-choice rhetoric. They have no vision and no leaders who make any sense.

It's time to change or get out of the way. If the Republican Party wants to be viable it has to offer people something other than lies, innuendo and smears. They have some work to do.

3. Not only are they in their 60s...but they are not passing their values along in great number.
You just don't see a dittohead with a big bunch of kids. Most of Rush's most solid demographic are unmarried or divorced. Jebus knows why the fuck they actually care...not like they're leaving anything behind for anyone they care about.

Now fundies? Oh yeah, fucking like bunnies.

9. My Dad is a dittohead, 61 years old. My brother and I are liberals. The younger generations are not
taking to Rush and co at all.

4. Gonna be a while, we're in the center now
The Democrats moved toward the center very hard to counter the Repub dominance of the 80s. The repugs of course became basically wingnuts. They can't really move to the middle until we start staking out the left.

13. Different kind of RWer.
Still obnoxious...just not as vehemently rooted in their stance as they (although they are more sheltered these days) tend to "fall from grace" in their teenage and college years.

Wait until the Duggars are all grown up. If at least one or two don't turn out normal (leaving their Pentie Fundie faith) I'll start getting scared.

8. Considering the center is far right of where it was 40 years ago...
...that's not saying much. Corporate overlords are corporate overlords, regardless of which banner they fly.

10. My take is that the younger one will abandon the party and
start calling himself independent until someone in the conservative world starts making sense again..

who will greedily accept millions of dollars to spout lies and spin to malcontents, and who will take drugs to mask his shame, the way Draft-dodger Limbaugh does now for the pathetic crewe of Homelanders Against America.
