5. hell there are lifelong Dems in the Senate just as weaselly

It comes with the territory. I fully trust only about a handful of people in Congress.

3. I'd bet that deals are being made with about two more Reps
Biden's been working to get Obama 60-62 votes in the Senate.

7. It wouldn't surprise me
The GOP is too radical, anybody remotely moderate can't be comfortable with that. If you look around and the rising stars in your party are Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal and Joe The Plumber, plus you have people screaming at tea parties that they want to ban books, well, it might be time to move on and hang out with the normal people for a change.

14. do you have a link to that?
That she was the one who put it in the bill? I know in the omnibus bill which passed after the stimulus there was a fraction of what she took out put into that and it was for research. I can't find where she put all of that back into another bill later on though.

15. I sort of recall the figure of $478 M in the security bill.
As for a link - no I don't have one. I don't get all of my information from the internet. Some is from listening to tv, radio, etc.

16. Which bill, do you remember?
I see Homeland Security having a meeting coming up on the 29th about an upcoming bill, and there was something mentioned about possible pandemic funding for that.

13. that's not to say that
Snowe wasn't for it or anything. I don't really know if she was or not. Trimming out things like that helped provide Collins, Specter and Snowe some cover to vote for it in the end. They all probably were glad to see anything trimmed out that they could get so they could say they saved some taxpayer cash.

12. Once someone rips the bag
who knows what will shake out?

This could be the start of a larger exodus. One can hope.
