OH NOES, CONSPIRACY, the flu is no longer the chief story!
:sarcasm:

Of course when the NEWS cycle in the weekend covered the breaking story over torture these were the posts we read

So I guess Arlen is part of the conspiracy too huh?

:-)

And yes, this is an idiotic idea to hold, but hells bells this is exactly what we read by many, I suspect, well intentioned people who don't understand news cycles

By the way Arlen, I for one welcome you into the party

It also tells us a hell of a lot about the modern RNC

2. Remember how Obama used Edwards' endorsement to flip the news cycle after Hillary's big win?
I wonder when the deal was made and if Obama or Biden were allowed to pull the trigger at their discretion.

6. strategic polics is boring to the tv news heads. As soon as there's another US case, it'll flip back
to swine flu central.

Or...if a missing blonde girl gets the swine flu....

12. Missing blonde girl in our local paper
Happened in Myrtle Beach. I'm waiting for the national outlets to get their mitts on the story. Ugh.

13. Does she have the flu, and has she been seen with Arlen?
(On a serious note, I am making a joke, a sick joke, over what could be a tragedy for a family)

19. Okay, I ROFL-ed!
It's a shame that the 24-hour news channels have made such a travesty of abduction coverage by only paying attention to the missing blonde girls--now those of us who pay attention to that sort of thing are jaded and cynical.

So far the local story is following the same trajectory as other missing-young-women stories, so I do fear the outcome: 17 year old, lied to parents, took off to Myrtle Beach with her friends, walked down the beach to see some boys at another hotel, started to walk back to her hotel, again down the beach in the dark, and never arrived (this was Saturday night, I believe).

I was in Myrtle Beach only once (didn't enjoy it) and got creeped out myself--the first morning we were there my husband woke up with a migraine. The (cheap-o) hotel didn't have any medicine and the gift shop wasn't going to open for another three hours, so I walked a couple of blocks to a commercial area that ran parallel with the strip to get to a drugstore. I looked like hell and was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt, and still a guy in a big sedan drove by slowly, checking me out. I don't know if he thought I was a hooker finishing up a "shift" or what, but I was REALLY grateful to get to a more high-traffic street. So I can see how there would be plenty of creepazoids there, ready to have a field day with young women on spring break.

7. The only reason Arlen is switching parties is because he contracted the flu
from a gay abortionist he met on Craig's List who wanted the right to get married. This is about to break.

8. We've Got A New Shiny Toy...
And this one is one we can all play with. The flu story ran it's media course...24 hours of fixation and now onto the next bright shiny thing in the toy box.

14. This is going to sound callous, but...
No body count in the US within the first 24 hours and the media's attention wanders. They truly do take the meme "If it bleeds, it leads" to heart, and if the story doesn't deliver the same amount of dead bodies and drama as the first chapter of The Stand, they lose interest.

So unless some city starts burning piles of dead bodies in the streets, don't expect the same level of interest in the future.

15. We will, if this is the real deal, we will
and the first deaths will be breaking news all over your teevee

Not me saying this, head of CDC

Of course I do have a clue on how this works, sadly

On both the disease process and the US media

Now what I have to track is the little tidbit they were going to go into that this news stopped, as to point of origin

I worked in TV news for a few years, albeit on the Web side, but still got to see the news cycle/interest motivation up close and personal. (At the time everyone was freaking out about bird flu. I got SO TIRED of doing stories on bird flu...)

On edit: speling

17. True...But In Proper Proportion...
The other day I heard someone say that the Spring and Summer are the worst time for flu to gestate...it does a lot better when people are stuck indoors...especially in germ incubators such as schools. I'm sure when the first person dies of this strain, the story will be back and the obsessing will return, but it'll fade with the next "breaking news" or some other bright shiny toy (dead blonde).

I do think this switch can and may bring the torture story back to the front burner. I can easily see Specter treaming up with Leahy and even Feingold in pushing for investigations and hearings into what happened. It leaves a big hole in the GOOP as Specter's been the top GOOP dog since the Anita Hill days...I'll be real interested in who takes his place.

Cheers...

:hi:

21. But, but, but, the torture story was front and center yesterday
on the K. Oberman and Rachel Madow show and about 60% of Tweety

It may appear like torture sank but it hasn't

What did you expect them to speak of it during the weekend? Wait they did, in the Morning Sunday shows

So to say that this story has replaced all is not just incorrect, but dishonest
