Specter is just pulling a reverse Lieberman
They only reason he is switching parties is because he will never make it against the Uber-Conservative running against him. He only stands one chance.

Now if only the Democrats pick someone else instead of him we might finally be rid of his mangy a--.

1. He was promised there would be no primary challenger.
It was part of the deal, per MSNBC.

4. No Dem-sponsored primary challenger.
If he fucks up, there's no reason the Dems can't withhold funding from Arlen and let a Lamont clean his clock.

11. And the Democratic party in Pennsylvania agreed to this?
(Not to mention any actual Democrat in PA that might be interested in the seat).

12. The won't buck the DSCC. Rendell, Sestak, too bad, so sad.
Specter's no dummy, he wouldn't have switched without a guarantee of a free ride in the primary.

15. In 2006 the DSCC picked Amy Klobuchar to be our candidate
It was too bad as she was being challenged by a much more progressive candidate. I really miss the days when the DFL took perverse pride in being a thorn in the side of the national party.

Or maybe Lieberman doesn't want him in the pup tent

5. LOL. He could be the second officeholder in the Connecticut for Lieberman party.
That'd be hilarious.

13. Who's the first?
Lieberman isn't a member of the CT for Lieberman party. In fact, it was funny. Some college professor registered as a member then because he was the only member appointed himself chairman and used his bully pulpit to attack Joey L.

6. His mangy ass is popular in PA
He's pro-labor. He's pro-choice. He'll bring at least 15% of the remaining PA GOP over to the Democrats. He just kneecapped the GOP. I'm personally going to not look this gift horse in the mouth until we have some viable alternatives AND at least 62 votes in the Senate.

This is a huge plus. Ideology can wait a few weeks.

9. I dunno, I think we need more centrists who actually vote that way
Rather than ones who talk like centrists and then vote Hard Core RW
