Strom Thurmond, Phil Gramm, Richard Shelby, Ben Nighthorse Campbell
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 12:00 PM by scheming daemons
Four prominent senators that switched from Democrat to Republican while in office.

Strom Thurmond, 1964. Switched because he was a racist prick that didn't like that the Democrats were becoming the party of the "ni****".

Phil Gramm, 1983. Switched because he was a corporate stooge who wasn't comfortable with Democrats being the party of the "working man".

Richard Shelby, 1994. Switched because he wanted to ride the "Newt Revolution".

Ben Nighthorse Campbell, 1995. Same as Shelby.

We didn't hear any Republican whining when those switches occurred.

Note to Repukes: Sit down and shut the f*** up. Your party has moved so far right that even a dick like Arlen Specter didn't want to be associated with you anymore.

2. Phil Gramm resigned after switching ...
... and faced the voters in a special election if I am not mistaken.

4. That's right, but it was as a Representative, not a Senator.
He resigned his House seat and had a special election called.

3. True. Minor correction--Gramm was still a Representative when he switched.
He was never a Democratic Senator.

But yeah, they do act like some law was violated when it happens or that some great moral ethic was shattered. Democrats usually just call their turncoats nasty names, but they don't act like the universe has spun out of control.
