Did the possibility of this move keep Matthews out of the 2010 race?
Recall that there was wide speculation about Chris Matthews running for the Senate in 2010 but he quickly bowed out. Was this thing in the works back then or completely unrelated?

1. I'd say completely unrelated.
I don't think Matthews' run was ever that serious, and I don't think Specter contemplated a switch until he realized there was a possibility of losing a GOP primary.

2. The possibility that Democrats in PA don't like Tweety probably did
Rendell was all gung-ho about Matthews but the rest of the democrats found him to be an opportunist that wasn't even residing in Pennsylvania (Tweety was living in Maryland).
