1. I'm sure he will have some democratic opponent, but PA is not like CT in a dem primary
CT dems are traditionally more liberal and white collar while PA dems are more blue collar and somewhat more socially conservative. I think Arlen easily wins Dem primary.

6. This is just a guess, but
I have a feeling EFCA is a catalyst for his switch. He probably got a lot of flack from unions in PA after coming out against it. After voting for the stimulus, there was little hope of staying in the GOP if he switched positions on EFCA. He's now free to support it.

This is just conjecture, but I'm expecting him to reverse his position soon.
