So should I wear a surgical mask now when I go out in public?
Just to be trendy, I mean.

I have a box of them, just one of those items I thought might be good to keep on hand.

Or will I look like a complete dork?

And who should be wearing them anyway, people who are sick, or everyone else?

8. IMO, the only good a cheap drugstore mask does
is prevent you from touching your mouth or nose with your fingers. That would cut contagion but you don't need a mask to do it, just learn to scratch with the back of your wrist until you get those contaminated fingers washed.

If you want to reduce droplet infection, you need to spring for a HEPA mask at a medical supply store.

The only people who need to mask in public right now are people who are severely immunodeficient: people on chemo and transplant recipients.

19. That's why I'm not using the drug store masks at all.
I've been wrapping my head in duct tape and inserting two straws in the nostril holes so I can breath.

It's not the most convenient. My diet consists solely of spaghetti noodles sucked in through my nasal cavity - it's the only thing that fits through the straws.

21. Place cotton in the end of the straws in order to.....
filter out that bad stuff.

Ain't duct tape great? In The South it holds most all things together.

9. Yes, you absolutely should wear one.
It will protect you from all known viruses. Drink urine too, I heard that helps. Also, drink vinegar with aspirin in it to tear the coating off the virus, and rub onions on yourself twice a day. :sarcasm:

10. I am unlikely to see you
So the "point-and-laugh" factor is going to be substantially reduced. Please do us all the comic courtesy of posting some photos of yourself out in public being "trendy."

Thank you very much.

I bet this must have led to a shortage of duct tape in Republican districts

24. Well, duct tape, of course, which absorbs all the nucular rays,
and can then be converted into enough energy to power a microwave oven for a bag of popcorn.
;)

15. I wish Americans would wear them when they have colds, etc
It was odd seeing people wear them in Japan when I first arrived, but I admire how courteous they are to at least try not to spread their germs.

22. Agree. Mask your cold or stay home.
We figured we would be OK here in rural Montana. BUT, then some 'snowbirds' just arrived home.... from Mexico. Stopped in to see Havocdad at his office. They were complaining of feeling feverish. :banghead:

Pass the tissues, would ya? I feel sorta wheezy.

23. See, that makes sense to me, too - that the sick people should be wearing them
so that when they sneeze, they catch all their "germs" in the mask

It seems silly to wear them to try to prevent getting sick. I mean, surgeons wears them, why? Because they're afraid of catching something? Of course not, it's to prevent them from breathing on the patient.
