"Its UnAmerican to buy American"
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 04:39 PM by Peacetrain
Today getting into the car, turned the radio on, and there was the Rush show, and some wingnut calls in and says it UnAmerican to buy American because the UAW owns Chrysler.. and Rush says he has been getting a lot of emails from the right expressing those sentiments.

"It's UnAmerican to buy American".. the wingnuts are that far off the deep edge, that they are now betting not only against American workers, but American producers.

I only got to listen to the radio for about 45 seconds, because my co-worker in the car with me, shut it off.. they were so embarrassed. Died in the wool republicans.

Now that is what you call patriotism in economic hard times by the new conservative minority. :sarcasm:

3. That has to be one of the dumbest things ever said
"UnAmerican to buy American"? I'm nowhere near the smartest man in the world, so maybe I'm missing something. But I don't think so. The UAW membership will be sacrificing (again) in order to save their jobs. So just how do they "own Chrysler"? Someone please explain it to me, I don't understand. On second thought, never mind. I cannot and will not allow myself to sink to that level of stupidity.

9. 'In exchange for concessions, the UAW is to get 55 percent stake in Chrysler'
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 04:49 PM by Eric J in MN
I'm pro-union, and so I regard the 55 percent stake as a good thing.

11. Ok. Thank you
I wasn't aware of that. That is indeed a good thing. If the company survives, that is.

19. well, if they have a stake in the company, wouldn't it stand to reason that they would
bust their asses to keep the company going? it's a good idea if you ask me, because the employees prosper along with the big wigs in all of this.

24. A stake?
Isn't 55% of a company a controlling share?

Just what IS "Chrysler" these days, anyway? Is it a company in and of itself, or a division of another auto company?

...the may emerge from bankrupcty as a division of Fiat.

Or they may not survive bankruptcy.

16. No they really don't know how stupid they look they live in rainbow bright land
where everything is bright and sunny until its them living in a card board box. Even then it won't be a personal failing but a test from god to prove they are worthy of being in the top 1%. They are incapable of reality, Reagan said the riches will trickle down on them and they still are waiting to receive their golden rewards.

In fact from talking to some of these nit wits that benefited from union workers business, these business folks were upset that the union worker was paid so high of a wage, when the businesses failed in the 80's because of union worker down sizing and the out sourcing of jobs, not one of these business nit wits could put the blame on lost customers it was the evil democrats that cost them business because of new EPA rules.

Stupid is as stupid does.

22. I had to chuckle when I read the bit about...
Golden rewards... trickling down... I'm reminded of my brother hiding among the fig branches above the tack shed... and calling our sister into the yard... that's the kind of golden shower that might wake them up!

On a serious note, you're spot on about the union stuff.

10. Truly, Saturday Night Live couldn't come up with better segments than the GOP reality!
This stuff truly is amazing. They all must be smoking/drinking/snorting/popping something pretty powerful to believe the crap they're saying and doing.

You cannot support conservatism & the GOP and claim to be a patriotic American.

14. Even in the wingnut's "black is white, up is down" world
that's some fucked-up logic!

It gives me hope, though, that your conservative co-workers were embarrassed and shut off the radio. Perhaps the conservative-in-the-street is not quite as far gone as their mouthpieces.

23. If you're using a car for transportation most of your money will go to people who aren't American
Walk or bike

Your fuel will be food, which is at least occasionally produced by good, hard-working American farmers.
