He's enough of an attention whore to do something stupid, what do you think he will do?

1. Remain a Dem where he thinks he has more leverage and power.
And he does.

2. That may be true, but ...
... isn't he always trying to "break away"?

3. I've never had that sense. He thinks he represents the silent majority of right-wing Dems
which may or may not be a figment of his imagination. If Indiana Dems suddenly surged left, he might be in the same spot Specter is in in PA. That's my sense.

4. I think any Dem that now became a Republican would be a rock star
They're so desperate he could probably negotiate to be on the 2012 GOP GE ticket at this point.

5. That's not such a prize.

That looks like a one-way ticket to oblivion at this point.

7. Bayh isn't a right winger
He's a pragmatic politician with absolutely no core values. He figured out a long time ago that to win in Indiana he would have to tack right. His father was one of the most liberal, pro-labor Senators of his era and Evan saw him lose to Dan Fucking Quayle. He doesn't want to be a rockstar, he wants to be in power. The majority has power. End of story.

10. I imagine nothing
Why would he leave the super majority to join the minority? Particularly if it makes his re-election harder.
