Wow, NPR fluffing torture-enabler Bybee -- RIGHT NOW!!
Gay former student says, Gee, he was such a nice guy, he didn't make fun of me! Distant colleagues give vague eulogy-like thumbnail sketches of his niceness and normalness, and ask how could he do it? Gee, maybe it's all just a big MIX-UP!!

"Torture Memo Author Not Seen As Ideologue," by Ina Jaffe

"He was an excellent, excellent teacher," says Michael Higdon, who is now himself a professor at UNLV. Students knew that Bybee was a conservative, he says, but he was never an ideologue in class. As an example, Higdon recalls the time he picked a Supreme Court ruling in a famous gay rights case as his class project.

"As a gay student, I was very passionate about the case and I wanted to talk about it," Higdon says. "And I had this fear that he was going to say 'Well, the Supreme Court was wrong, and you're wrong.' But he really made me feel like my opinions and my thoughts were valid, even though I doubt deep down he agreed with them."

Best part: "Tomorrow we'll profile the top CIA lawyer behind the torture program!" Oh yay! I bet he loves puppies, too!

:wow:

1. Wait a minute - I heard the show, and friends of Bybee said how...
...shocked and disappointed they are. I didn't see it as a "fluff" piece.

2. Did you bother to listen at all?
They led off with a former head of OLC who said he was shocked at the hideous memos. That was their lead. They later followed with saying that Bybee was a fool for having trusted Yoo.

More goofball "I hate NPR" hysteria. I guess you were assuming no one else was listening.

4. Yes and I read it too. Whitewash city.
Poor misunderstood Judge Bybee, he must have been under a lot of pressure yadda yadda. No doubt he's got a Bushler PR firm on the case putting out fires .

5. NPR will continue to be unpopular with those who demand all hate all the time.
I like NPR's balanced approach. I want to hear contrary opinions. Not knowing what the other guy is thinking makes me at least 50% ignorant.

7. Bybee is about as warm and fuzzy as Joseph Goebbels.
I'm really not interested in hearing "the other side" of this particular story, no.

6. That's why I stopped giving them money.
Can't trust 'em to act in the public interest.
