Specter, what it means and does not mean
There are some here who are happy as clams as some see the coveted "60" majority. I applaud what has happened, as it shows that, if nothing else, most Americans are not happy with the GOP, especially the version that has allowed Fox News and Rush Limbuagh to become their voice. However, let's not pour the champagne yet.

The truth is, there are a bunch of democrats who are more than willing and eager to pick up where the GOP left off. Evan Bayh, Joe Liberman, Mary Landrieu, we all know their names. Also, while Obama was to the left of most of his rivals, he is still very much willing ( too willing) to listen to the center.

Does this mean hope is lost, by the Gods and Goddesses no! It means that THIS is the time we apply pressure, because we know that the right is buckling under it. Two weeks ago, Obama was all too eager to "look forward", now, after pressure, he is letting Holder off the leash a bit, a little more pressure, and we can see Holder sink his fangs into Cheney's fat legs. The same applies to a variety of issues, from health care to the wars, because IF we keep the pressure on the DINOS, they know that their days of simply going "our hands were tied" will NOT work, and that they will actually have to put some red meat on the bones they want to throw us.

It will not be easy, it will not be pretty, and there will be times we still cannot get what we want, but this is the first time in 30 years that we actually have the muscle to get some things done. Clinton had some, but he puffed it away smoking cigars in the Oval Office with Monica, Obama may be slick, but he is not stupid enough to do that. There are some genuine celebrations to be had, perhaps with a good cold beer instead of champagne, but what this means is that now, we have a fighting chance, emphasis on fighting. They who have no stomach for this fight, let them depart...

1. I'm not celebrating. He's another Lieberman. He only gives a shit about his ego and his own hide.
He only switched parties to save both. If it were possible for me to have less respect for Specter than I already did, then I would.

He's not doing the Democrats any favors. He's not going to vote any differently than he ever did. WTF are they welcoming this Trojan horse?

2. True, but
The value can be gained indirectly. As ugly as it may seem, the GOP gained a lot of it's strength because weak people thought they were the Alpha Dogs. Now, it is plain they are not, which means the common man will not be as attracted to them.
