Mexico Revises Pig Flu Confirmed Deaths DOWN By 2/3!
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601086&sid=aZyRt.8GUvHc&refer=latin_america

" April 29 (Bloomberg) -- Mexican authorities raised the toll of suspected swine flu-related deaths to 159 while revising down the number of confirmed deaths to seven from 20. Officials said the rate of mortality has held steady over the past few days.

About 2,498 people have been diagnosed with symptoms related to swine flu, while 1,300 of those are hospitalized, Health Minister Jose Cordova told reporters late yesterday. Hospitalizations have declined over the past few days, he said. "

So which is it, panic-mongerers? Is Bloomberg lying to us? Is Mexico lying to us? The doctors? Because you just KNOW that it's a bio-weapons conspiracy that's gonna kill us all - that sober and rational conclusion can't POSSIBLY be let go of.

16. There is a middle ground, you know....
You don't have to be only either scared shitless OR in complete denial. You can be concerned & want to know what's going on.... They're saying it could do like the 1918 flu and fizzle out only to reemerge in the Fall stronger, so I think it's only wise to stay up on the facts & be cautiously aware of what's going on.

27. And if not this fall? What's the next goalpost move?
We're gonna have to come up with the unit of time called the PFU (pig flu unit). It represents the NEXT time we'reallgonnadie from some breathless reported and repeated pandemic.

The beauty of it is that SOONER OR LATER, you guys'll be right. What a glorious day that will be, eh?

5. Here is the problem with your "26 confirmed cases" theory
Edited on Wed Apr-29-09 09:01 AM by NNN0LHI
Chances are there have been thousands of unconfirmed cases that were never reported.

Someone got sick then got over it by themselves and never even seen a doctor.

Don

Edit: Sorry you edited and I didn't realize you were being sarcastic until after I posted. Whoops.

Too many here will completely discount the entire message if the grammar or context are not correct.

It sucks bad enough to be limited, sucks worse to have your ineptitude dissected.

Doesn't help that i am usually balancing an infant. lol

4. Because they were done in a lab that is not approved by WHO
Only seven of the otherwise confirmed samples were sent on to a WHO lab for secondary confirmation.

21. Is this really the reason?
I know in San Antonio one family with a confirmed case also had another family member with a positive test which later proved to be in error.

I was wondering if the testing process might just not be fool proof.

23. Quotes from the Mexican Health Minister:
Cordova explained the change in the confirmed death toll by saying further, more rigorous tests had forced an official recount.

"Of 159 (probable) deaths, only seven have been confirmed," he told the journalists.

Under sharp questioning as to how such a discrepancy could have occurred, Cordova said -- to some confusion -- that 26 proven cases of swine flu had been detected, of which "seven corresponded beyond any doubt to deaths caused by the new virus."

He added: "This tallying task has in great part been carried out in conjunction with the WHO (World Health Organization). They only count as 'positives' confirmed cases."

Cordova said Mexican authorities were working with specialized laboratories in the United States and Canada to test suspected flu samples.

29. From WHO
"Unfortunately that <150-plus deaths> is incorrect information and it does happen, but that's not information that's come from the World Health Organisation," Ms Allan told ABC Radio today.

"That figure is not a figure that's come from the World Health Organisation and, I repeat, the death toll is seven and they are all from Mexico."

She then goes on to clarify...

She said the WHO was not recommending against overseas travel

19. My two cents
Which I know won't count for much because I'm new here, but I've been reading all the flu threads with great interest. I work in healthcare so this kind of thing is important to me. I don't see most of the threads as fear mongering, but merely attempts to discuss a virus that has the potential to lead to a pandemic. I'm certain the people who post threads about it don't want that to happen just to be proven right.

20. I remember the last swine flu panic
And the shots the Government wanted everyone to get, and that many thought it was some conspiracy to control the masses, and others thought millions would die. I'm not sure anyone even got sick that time. Same deal here. Thirty years and no change.

25. When a virus kills a human being like yourself then you are stupid not to be concerned
and check into it to see if you could or would have it as well.

I have always said that this is one of the dangers of people coming here without our knowledge.
In the old days at Ellis island people would go thru screening and if sick taken care of or sent back home so that they would not spread anything into the general public. This was certainly true then especially in the big urban area where people live so closely together and it should be handled in a similar manner now.

Just think about it, within the last few years various sicknesses, illnesses have returned to the US even though they have not been seen in decades. The carriers of these viruses, etc. are human beings. Use logic instead of emotions and it does not take long to figure out what the real issue is behind these increases and where our concerns should be concentrating. People are coming across our borders, flying in on planes, etc. going unchecked and bringing their sickness/illness in with them. I am only surprised that more of the US public or officials have not thought of these type of concerns/issues before now. It is a danger we face everyday until something is done to stop the illegal in flow of people.

34. Then you will live your life in total concern
Imagine if you can the difference between say, a human being like yourself, and a human being like myself. Humans like me have lived for many years with a virus that very specifically goes for people like us. I understand your panic. We did that in the early 80's. Done with it now. What you fear you will see, I have seen, and you could have too, but you did not look. They were not human beings like yourself, but like myself, so it is that factor that means I have learned what you did not bother learing. That is my perspective. You seem like kids scared of thunder that is far away, scared because you've never lived through a storm. And we grown ups try to calm you with knowlege and perspective.
I also remember the last swine flu, and the vaccine and the panic and the utter lack of people who really got sick, much less died.

I'd also love to see cites for the 'various sicknesses' that were not seen for decades and have returned. Various implies at least three, gone for 'decades' and returned. Please bring that information.
