Is it safe for us to call ourselves Liberal again?
After all, a new polls says that lots of people say Obama is a "liberal."

But now the word sounds different. I'm beginning to think we don't need to fear coming out and calling ourselves liberals any more (except in the Deep South). I for one now prefer the term Progressive because the opposite of it is regressive and I just LOVE to call REpublicans that (ya know, like a toddler who "regresses" on potty training!).

So, people saying Obama is a liberal may not be such a bad thing any more. But leave it to the MSM to tut-tut about it -- always the last to pick things up, aren't they?

1. Liberal ain't what it used to be
What passes for liberal today is mighty damned conservative by earlier standards.

2. I never stopped. I refused to wuss out and give republicans the word...
cravenly substituting "progressive" in its place.

6. Well, I never had to wuss out either. I'm in New Haven, a liberal citadel.
But I do like Progressive because it sounds like it is forward thinking. I don't find Liberal a bad thing, tho.

4. I want to own the words "patriot" and "patriotic".
Which were so wrongly appropriated by those who were neither.

To the winners go the spoils.

I say we keep liberal AND take a patriot, patriotic, and patriotism.

It's patriotic to care about your fellow man and to fight oppression and tyranny, which is what liberals have been trying to do all along, right?

:patriot:

5. I always call myself a liberal, mainly because the "purists" ruined the term "progressive".

7. That too. If being a "true progressive" means I have to be like those who self-proclaim it...
Then call me a fucking liberal.

10. I would say a 'corporatist liberal'....
meaning we can be liberal, unless it might cost the big corporations on the bottom line.
