One reason Specter could be vulnerable in a Democratic primary
I can't imagine primary voters will like seeing this in opposition campaign ads:

1. Yup. He comes with *lots* of baggage. He'll be low hanging fruit for opponents.
Which is as it should be for someone with no moral compass.

2. Some of the more egregious moments from the Clarence Thomas/ Anita Hill
hearings might also make devastating ads.

Then again, most of my Democratic friends here in PA seem to have forgotten about that, and the fact the we owe Arlen Specter for many decades of Justice Thomas. Everyone I talk to here seems happy with the switch and will vote for Specter without a second thought.

3. Why doesn't he retire?
He's had a good long run in public office. I can't understand running for another 6 year term when you're already 79.

4. I'm with you. it creeps me out to see these guys running
for as long as they draw breath. I love my own Senator, Pat Leahy, but I'm really hoping that next year will be his last run. He's been in the Senate for 35 years. 7 terms are more than enough. I'll have little enthusiam for an 8th run and I'll lose respect for him.

5. Assuming he has an opponent in the primary.
I am sure the party leaders have made provisions for his financing, endorsements, and support.

Remember how pragmatic and conservative PA Democrats can be. Sen. Casey is a good example.
