9. First car was a 68 beetle, my second car was this:
A restored 1959 Jaguar MK I, 3.4 liter. Chevy small block and powerglide, pretty quick!

$1500. I later got three more, including a 57, but never got them fully restored.

These were sweet. Four wheel discs, grease fittings on the door hinges, burled maple dash and door trim...

This is NOT me, and it's a 57 with full fender skirts:

10. Nice cars!!
My first car was a 1947 chevy.....

My second was an old VW bug - I don't remember the year....

I have never owned a car that ran for more than 6 months....really. I have an opposite midas touch with the fucking things.
.
Which is why my ride is a 1985 Specialized Stumpjumper sport, perhaps the greatest rough stuff touring bicycle ever marketed as a mountain bike.

I'm getting ready to take it out for a nice LOOOOONG tour here pretty soon.....The DU homeless camp tour.

16. How do you have it set up to tour?
I assume you went to at least semi-slick tires, have you altered anything else? Front rack? I ask because my wife and I have a couple of Rockhoppers from around 1990 I have been eyeing to outfit for light touring at least. Believe it or not I just built these bikes a couple weeks ago. They had never been sold, just sat in a warehouse for the last umpteen years.

18. I put a Tubus touring rack on the back and a Surly 'nice rack' on the front -
Edited on Wed Apr-29-09 10:54 PM by cliffordu
Arkel panniers front and rear.

I use Schwalbe Marathon XR tires...the only way to go for bad road touring.

And a Brooks Professional saddle.

A custom set of wheels - Shimano XT hubs, Velocity DeepV rims....

Phil wood bottom bracket.

yummy.

Your stumpjumpers will work just fine for touring.

Go to crazyguyonabike.com and you can see everything from dime store beaters to 10,000 custom rigs made for touring.

6. Shit I wish I had a Hemi in my Dakota instead of the 230hp 4.7 V8...
Fuel mileage wouldn't change but It'd be nice to have better acceleration and pulling power sometimes. Oh well, the 4.7 does ok...

12. I'm actually hoping that Chrysler finally gets better.
It may take them a decade, but Ferrari, Maserati and Alfa Romeo have all gotten gradually better under the Fiat flag. Today, I wouldn't buy a Chrysler with someone else's money.

Hemi Panda (today it would be the 500) though, that's hilarious.

19. My Mom had that same 70 Chevelle SS 396
Edited on Wed Apr-29-09 11:00 PM by XOKCowboy
Hers was maroon/purple with the same racing stripes, wheels and hood locks. Sweet car when she got it. Then she desecrated it by having a 2bbl carb put on. SHEESH come on Mom!! The terrible thing was that I was driving it when it got totalled. I was stopped at a stop sign when a drunk driver misjudged a turn and plowed right into me. I felt worse than Mom did about it. She was worried that I was hurt (just a couple of scrapes) and I was pissed because I'd always hoped she'd sell/give it to me!!

Man we had some great cars back in the day didn't we? My friends in High School in '72 had Camaros, Goats, 57 Chevys, Boss 302 Mustangs and Roadrunners. Gas was $.59 a gallon and Muntz was churning out 8-Track players. Good Times.
