Virginia Foxx (R-NC) Story of Matt Shepard a hoax
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/29/virginia-foxx-story-of-ma_n_192971.html

As the House of Representatives debates an expansion of hate crimes legislation, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) has taken the rhetoric to a new level, claiming that those who say Matthew Shepard was murdered in Wyoming for being gay are perpetrating a "hoax" on the American people.

"I also would like to point out that there was a bill -- the hate crimes bill that's called the Matthew Shepard bill is named after a very unfortunate incident that happened where a young man was killed, but we know that that young man was killed in the commitment of a robbery. It wasn't because he was gay. This -- the bill was named for him, hate crimes bill was named for him, but it's really a hoax that that continues to be used as an excuse for passing these bills," said Foxx.

Can I use the "C" word about her?

3. "but we know that that young man was killed in the commitment of a robbery"
Yeah, the assholes that killed him admitted they intended to rob his place after they killed him. That makes this soooo much more excusable.

I only speak for myself but the "C" word is fitting here.

7. Perhaps she should also deny the Holocaust - then take a trip to Europe
During the trial, Chastity Pasley and Kristen Price (the pair's then-girlfriends) testified under oath that Henderson and McKinney both plotted beforehand to rob a gay man. McKinney and Henderson then went to the Fireside Lounge and selected Shepard as their target. McKinney alleged that Shepard asked them for a ride home. After befriending him, they took him to a remote area of Laramie where they robbed him, beat him severely (media reports often contained the graphic account of the pistol whipping and his smashed skull), and tied him to a fence with a rope from McKinney's truck.

10. Matthew's mother was in the House gallery when Foxx said this.
KO named Foxx tonight's Worst Person. He said that Matthew's mother was listening to the debate from the House gallery when this ugly, awful woman spewed those lies. Keith demanded a public apology and her resignation.

12. She's a moron, and I'd still like to see a better bill
The only part of the bill that I have ever cared about and wanted from the beginning was the provision for the federal government to step in and ensure that a crime is properly prosecucted and sentenced , ie no "homosexual panic" bullshit or simple indifference by the local court.

The part that annoys me about the hate crimes law is the reporting. The current statistics are COMPLETELY MEANINGLESS, because they only count hate crimes prosecuted as such. If you are robbed and beat up but he doesn't call you a faggot or a cracker or a Jew or Mexican or nword then it doesn't show up in the stats. The reporting should be statistical, not judicial.
