11 Democrats vote with the Republicans to defeat Mortgage Bankruptcy bill
WASHINGTON - The Senate has defeated legislation that would have let hundreds of thousands of debt-ridden homeowners seek mortgage relief in bankruptcy court.

President Barack Obama had said the bill was important to saving the economy and promised to push for its passage. But facing stiff opposition from banks, Obama did little to lean on lawmakers who worried it might spike interest rates.

The bill would have allowed bankruptcy judges to rewrite a person's mortgage terms, if a bank refused to offer better terms based on income and home value. Only 45 senators voted in favor of the bill, with 51 senators opposed.

23. Yes, but I wonder if she would vote the same if she was recently re-elected with a 6 year cushion.
 Perhaps she notes the threat from the progressive wing of the party - plus the other blue dogs has provided her cover.

google the term "cash for keys" or "keys for cash". I haven't had a chance yet, but someone was telling me about it. They said you can make a deal with the bank for them to get their house back without things going missing.

12. Hmm .Neither Spector or Obama did us any good on this one!
"But facing stiff opposition from banks, Obama did little to lean on lawmakers who worried it might spike interest rates."

Nevertheless, helluva first vote for specter. Obama did say Specter would be "independent " and wasn't a "guaranteed Dem vote though. I guess the banks still call the shots, and it doesn't surprise me. Just google who they donate to.

Sometimes you just can't win.

20.  Boggles the mind! LOL! This is why I don't necessarily jump for joy
about the election of some folks just because they have a "D" after their name. Doesn't mean they will vote with us and begs the question, what really is a Democratic majority? If they don't vote with us, what is the point?( Yeah, yeah, I know, we set the agenda)

So stop saying that..

He now carries a "D" in front of his name, that is all that is necessary.

Yay team!!!
