Those robo-calls about expiring car warranty
Anyone else being bothered by calls on your cell saying that your car warranty is about to expire? They are really driving me and everyone else I know crazy...even tho we are on the "do not call" list. I did a google search and it seems that everyone in the US is getting them, but no one has figured out who is doing it.....I could only find one state that seems to be doing any investigating, and that is Indiana. Anyone here know anything? Thanks.

2. They call my office...
Sometimes five, six times a day. I've listened to the entire thing a couple of times and have asked that they take me off their list... I'm pretty sick of it.

It doesn't block squat. Since I got on the list I get more phone spam than ever, and MUCH more RW spam.

I don't use my cell phone a lot, but it seems every time I turn it on lately I get a robo call. Since I use pay as you go cell phone, it cost me every fucking time they call.

17. Yeah, BUT!
When you are driving down the freeway at 80mph, weaving through traffic while drinking a cup of coffee, changing the radio and shaving while reading the newspaper. You don't have time to read the number on the screen.

Just kidding, I deplore those who drive while on the cell phone among other things.

I tend to answer most calls because I am lonely and want someone... No not really but the screen on my phone is so small and I need reading glasses, I end up answering most calls.

I am pretty sure I have received those calls and I think I have also received written ads. Funny how they claim your warranty is expiring but they can't tell you which vehicle it is (we have 2 vehicles).

6. They don't care about the list.
The computer just autodials numbers in sequence and spoofs the Caller ID. I don't answer calls on my cell from phone numbers I don't know since only about 6 people know my cell number.

9. They're into credit cards, too.
I've started haranguing them with the foulest language, citing they're con artists. They used to hang up as soon as I mentioned the Do Not Call Registry. Now they're arguing back. One started crank calling, without saying anything. But I could hear the same call center background noise.

44. I got a call last week, and the little snot tried to argue with me that I'm not on the DNC list.
"Then I'll tell you what - you f%$#@!* put me on your g&#$@!* list and don't ever f%$#@!* call me again!"

I reported one last week - they were stupid enough to have their name and phone number in the recorded message that they left on my answer machine. So I called them up to give them shit about it - the girl who answered apologized and said she'd remove my number - I reminded her that I'm on the DNC list and I'm not supposed to have to contact them to have my number removed because it's already on the "removed" list.

18. They're after your credit card number,
according to one article I read. If you ask them questions: What is the name of your company? What state does your company operate out of? How did you get my number? They won't answer the questions, and will transfer you to another person, then another person, each one being a hard sell to get that CC number.

24. I kept getting them at home,
on a land line.

Finally, one day, instead of hanging up during the recording, I stayed on the line. A nice lady came on, and I went into my Academy-Award winning performance of "the clueless woman." She was SO happy to help me, because, you see, I told her (in breathless tones, voice quavering) "I HAD NO IDEA MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED!"

She said they could help me. I said I was so grateful for that, because, since my husband had died not long ago (I know, I know, but I am a cheap trick, that's true), I really had no idea of what needed to be paid and what was overdue, so I was really glad they had called.

(Can you go to Hell for lying to these bottom-feeders?

No, I didn't think so.)

Anyway, we were on the phone for about fifteen minutes, while she read me some sort of gibberish about all the things that would be covered by my brand new warranty and how it wasn't going to cost me anything when those - "You know how expensive car repairs can be, don't you?" she asked, and I said, in my now-sincerely-trembling voice because I was so pissed off, "No, my husband took care of all those things." - inevitable breakdowns occurred. I thanked her over and over, telling her how grateful I was that they'd entered my life.

See, this is what happens when I'm bored and the phone rings. It's never pretty.

Finally, she got around to the basics. "Now," she said, "I'll need your name and the make and model of my car."

"But," I stuttered, "but, but, we were talking so nicely. I thought you knew me. I thought we were FRIENDS. Now, if you know that my car needs a new warranty, how can you NOT know my name and the kind of car I drive?"

She stammered something and hung up.

I haven't gotten any of those calls since. Coincidence?

I was getting these calls every day. What finally worked was keeping them on the phone as long as I could. I found this site with that generates fake names and credit card numbers.I would give them that info, and act perplexed when the numbers wouldn't go through. Then I asked to speak to a "supervisor". I told her that I would go get "another" card. Actually, I put the phone down and had a cup of coffee, then repeat. After about an 45 minutes of this , I asked how I could get in on this scam, the guy on the phone realized that I had been jerking his chain, and hung up. I haven't heard from them since.

43. For the past two years, I have been getting...
between 10-20 calls a day. I use the machine to screen and usually don't pick up. Lately however, my son(28)and I have started to run the gag routine with these jerks.

He and I both speak a bit of Chinese and he speaks Japanese, a bit of Pushto, and several other languages. Fun when the agent picks up and cannot understand what we are saying. Sometimes, like other posters, I am as crude as possible--even more so with Indian/offshore calls.

Wish the tech. geeks would make an invention that would send a 440 volt current through the wires to the robodialers. Or, a program that would trace their exact location. Sometimes, I tell them that I have a puter program that is tracing their exact location while we speak. They don't like that one much.

These are all nonsense calls. Now, if someone would start a service to take all these flakes off the phones, I'd tend to support their service.

46. I have been trying this....
On one of the message boards I found after also receiving these calls, there was a message from a telemarketer who said that if you pick up and start hitting '5' before the computer turns the call over to a human, it will register your number as inactive. I've been doing it and so far it seems to have worked. We were getting about two calls on the home phone and umpteen on the business line. It might only work for about 3 months according to the post but then just do it again.
HTH,
emdee

47. Any call I get, who I don't know, gets searched then blocked.
I screen my calls and never answer numbers I don't know. If they were wanting me, then they have the recorder. Unknown number comes in, I then run a search on the number, which usually turns out to be a telemarketing scam, and then I block their numbers from ever calling again.

48. I once worked in telemarketing
and this is what we were selling. We had to read a script which said "this is the last chance to get your extended warranty". I questioned this and the person in charge said: "Yes, its my LAST CHANCE to sell it to him. If I don't do it today, I don't know when I will get around to it".

Its outright lying. People can buy the warranty anytime before the mileage or months are up. I hated it. I was an unconvincing seller and left after 3 weeks, no sales.
