I flew to Florida in March -- became seriously ill immediately upon returning home.

I mean, I got really sick. Serious night sweats, high fever, shivering, puking...for two days. I immediately attributed it to the plane flight and catching something onboard.

But I just came back from Asia (Thailand) last week. Two flights of fifteen-plus hours, plus a couple of other short hops. Nearly 20 hours each way. Not to mention the two weeks in Thailand with threats of malaria and Dengue. But I didn't get sick. Despite the hacking and coughing of passengers around me.

I don't know what my point is. Maybe it's to stop using Purell. Test your system. Build your immunity. Don't keep trying to outsmart the bugs which have been living and mutating on this world forever (or at least the last 6000 years ;) ). Live your fucking life.

Eventually, something will take you. Get taken on your own terms.

1. That's odd. Usually, the thought of going to Florida makes me seriously ill.

10. Same here. I lived in Florida most of my life
until I wised up and moved here to North Georgia in 1989. I hated Florida and just the thought of making a trip back to South Florida makes me ill. My daughter lives in Hollywood, FL, and she knows if she wants to see me that she has to come up here.

2. I drove to Florida in both January and April.....
I drank some, boated some, ate seafood and went to my nephews wedding. Got a little sun, too.

I don't know what the point is either.

5. I guess Florida wasn't the main point...it was the flying and getting ill
Maybe I got "swine flu" way back then.

Or, as the first respondent said, maybe it was just Florida. I grew up there (in a nice, quiet beach town) and I have family there. But otherwise...ugh. It makes me ill.

7. You might have got seasonal flu but you didn't get swine flu. Its first
known victim was in Mexico in the beginning of April.

If it started in FL, that would be where the most cases were to date.

8. Isn't that funny...I never once mentioned "swine flu" in my post.
Part of my vague point, I guess. Who is to know, as MOST OF US won't go to the doctor because we're being told NOT TO. Don't risk infecting other people...if you're sick, just stay home. Yet somehow, we're getting accurate reports about how many people have "swine flu." WTF? I got sick, just like "swine flu" sick, after a plane flight from Florida. If most people aren't even confirming wtf they've got yet they're being counted as swine flu...oh, wait...can't do that unless you go to the doctor...

Oh, I'm so confused.

6. I usually get seriously ill *before* I go to Florida.
Maybe it was bad planning.

9. Airplanes are notorious incubators for germs.
Many of my friends who have flown to Asia were sick when they arrived back in the US. Sometimes they were sick when they arrived in Asia.
