Just think - on April 3rd of this year Iowa Supreme court unanimously strikes down all the fundie arguments and says the gays and lesbians are entitled to equal protection under the law and that marriage is opened to them. Couples have already started to wed.
In the 32 days since -
New national fundie group (NOM) produces scary video which virally becomes the laughingstock of the world - then recruits "I gave up my beauty queen crown for Jesus" to do a commercial decrying the "gay agenda" just before the hypocritical nude pics come out, forcing current NOM president (and recipient of 33% of the donations taken in as salary from her other ok-to-hate-gays business) Maggie Gallagher to stress that Miss CA is not affiliated with NOM. In the midst of all this PR damage control work, NOM still fails to produce IRS mandated tax forms at citizen's request, subjecting themselves to daily fines and potential loss of tax free status.
Vermont House and Senate not only passes a law allowing same sex marriage, but turns around and over-rides the Governor's veto - becoming the first State to enact equal marriage laws through the legislature without the Court stepping in first.
Wash DC council votes to recognize all legally performed marriages based on the State laws
Maine passed the law and the Governor signed it today - becoming the first State to pass this legislation in both legislative bodies and the executive.
NC passes anti-bullying legislation to protect students including orientation and sexuality issues
New Hampshire has passed bills in both their House and Senate and we are awaiting resolution in their House at 1 pm today of the Senate version, then on to the Governor (not a sure bet that he won't veto it).
Holy shit, it feels like a GLBT roller-coaster after so many times of being kicked in the face. And I have to wonder where the judges in CA are on Prop 8 now - especially after all this. Their decision is due out within the next 30 days.
