It's all perspective, isn't it?
I was in a major US city the other day in a parking lot standing by my car. I was approached by a young Latino male with teardrop tattoos down his face and tattoos starting at his fingertips holding a crowbar and a long metal rod. He had the whole thing going, baggy jeans, tall boy t-shirt and cap on backwards.

The story could stop there and I could let you draw your own conclusions, but what fun is that? What happened next?

This nice young man proceeded to break into my car and retrieve my keys that I had locked in the car.
I tried to pay him but he refused to take any money. Just wished me a nice day and went on his way.:)
I was grateful that he took time out of his day to help me, because, after all, I was in a BAD neighborhood and who knows what might have happened.;)

1. I live in that kind of neighborhood
and these are the guys who smile and wave at me when I go buzzing by on my moped. I wave back.

I got real culture shock out here when I'd see 80 year old birdie ladies with gangland tats on their knuckles.

I got over it. It's not my thing but they're welcome to it.

2. Good one .......
It's always lovely to stand still and see how things play out, even if you're scared. Your story is the perfect example of that.

No one is ever who they look like, and one of the fun things I enjoy - me, with a big full head of shiny, silver hair - when I'm walking along is to see a group of young African-American males coming towards me. I always smile at them, and, without fail, I always get big, surprised smiles back, with the accompanying (I love it), "Hey, how ya doin'?" greetings from all of them.

You just have to be willing to hold on and see what happens. More often than not, I think good things happen. You had a good thing happen.

And those facial tats are pure prison issue, by the way. Your guy was the real deal. Makes it even better .............

:toast:

5. a "nice" young man
who knows how to break into cars and has the tools to do it with. He just happened along or did somebody call somebody? If he worked for a garage, why wouldn't he take any money? If he didn't work for a garage why was he wandering around a parking lot with tools capable of breaking into cars?

I appreciate the whole "bad looking guy is actually nice" theme, but details are not adding up here.

6. I knew someone was going to ask me about that

and to be honest, I asked my daughter about it too and she explained it to me.
He had one of those cars with the lambo (?) doors and she said that they sometimes get caught and one would have to carry those kind of tools to fix them when they do.
I think he was just actually a nice guy.
