How the Notre Dame students really felt about Obama's visit, by the numbers
Three percent of the Notre Dame student body didn't want Obama there. Ninety seven percent were in favor.

About two dozen graduates chose to receive their diplomas at an alternate ceremony in the Grotto. This is out of a graduating class of nearly 2,700 That's one percent. One fucking percent!

4. This was totally manufactured.
And Google currently comes back with over two thousand news articles that mention the 'ahem' protest.

18. Recall the Inauguration of GW, they kept all the protest
pictures to a bear minimum.

Later I heard that there were thousands of people protesting.

3. Notice I had to dig the information out of 3 separate news articles.
I knew this was GOP astroturf bullshit but I didn't realize until this morning how ridiculous it is.

5. actually I heard it repeatedly on the news
or rather I heard repeatedly that it was a tiny percent of the students who objected. it was too obvious for them to deny what with cheering students and all.

6. My local NBC news never mentioned the students booing the heckler.
The story was all about Obama being heckled inside and demonstrators outside. NBC Nightly News covered it more fairly.

15. You know, this doesn't even qualify as a small percent.
Less than one percent is a radical fringe.

17. I wonder how many total protesters there were?
I seem to remember 2 to 3 hundred outside agitators was all they could scare up after 2 weeks of hype. I don't see anything in the news about that today. Guess those in the media are ashamed to say, as they should be.

10. Hmm.
From all the news I was hearing about it, you would have thought it was some huge public uproar.

19. They're a valid voice, representing scads of folks who weren't there
They're representative! There are lots and lots more who couldn't be there! This was a significant number of people standing up to a popular president! They deserve a platform and wall-to-wall coverage!

Now, the millions of people all over the country who were in the streets protesting the launching of the invasion of Iraq? Nothing more than a focus group. Didn't represent anyone else. Rainbow-fright-wig-wearing dirty fuckin' hippies, all of them. Shrill. Trouble-makers. You know the type. They can be ignored, belittled, and marginalized.

21. Excellent sarcasm.
And I'll bet there must have been hordes, hordes I say, protesting Junior's honorary Notre Dame degree on account of his conflict with the Catholic church's 'teachings' about capital punishment. But I guess that must have been the period of time when I was living in a cave, because I don't remember one peep about that.
