Why the lockout in the US press about rape at Abu Ghraib?
Any theories? I thought maybe after the recent Daily Telegraph piece, we'd see something about this on MSNBC at least. But no. The focus remains on waterboarding. Not to belittle waterboarding, but there's something extra-special about rape to wake people up about how wrong this stuff is.

1. My inlaw is justifying all the torture by stating that the Japanese
tortured American prisoners.

12. So sick of that. As long as someone is worse than us, we're okay.
We have completely lost the idea that we're supposed to be better than the people we're fighting. "We don't behead people" is not sufficiently high moral ground for this country.

4. My theory is that there's possibly a verification issue
It's not squeamishness, the media had no problem ten or so years ago talking about oral sex.

5. why--because no one wants to face the fact we did this.
no one in the government is willing to do anything to bring those responsible for what they sanctioned.

they hide in the shadows hoping no one will see them for what they are-cowards.

10. Gibbs fired a warning shot over US media's heads at the UK press.
Nothing new in post 9/11 politics, these years, it seems.

16. that was disgusting
“I think if you do an even moderate Google search (heh) you’re not gonna find many of these newspapers and ‘truth’ within say 25 words of each other:”

“I want to speak generally about some of reports I’ve witnessed over the past few years in the British media and in some ways I’m surprised it filtered down,” Gibbs said. “Let’s just say that if I wanted to look up, if I wanted to read a writeup today of how Manchester United fared last night in the Champions League Cup, I might open up a British newspaper… If I was looking for something that bordered on truthful news, I’m not sure that would be the first stack of clips I picked up.”

What an asshole. I had hoped that we were rid of this type of press secretary.

18. But nothing on TV, which pretty much means it never happened.
TV is where Americans get 80% of their news.

17. Show Iraqi guards and U.S. soldiers
banging underage and teenage boys? This is America. We freak at the slightest hint of any homosexual activity/behavior. They'd release pictures of a prisoner having all their skin flayed off their still-alive body before they'd show a U.S. soldier with his dick up some poor boy's ass. Whatever is in those pictures and videos, RELEASE THEM ALL. We need to publicly cleanse ourselves of everything evil, fascistic and un-Constitutional that transpired under 8 years of BushCo lawlessness.

 Gives them something to fantasize about.
