What is a trailing case?

I thought it would be interesting to go watch a trial tomorrow, but most of what comes up on the count calendar is "trailing cases." What does that mean? Thanks.

I presume it refers to the teats closest to the rear end of mammals like dogs, pigs, cats, etc . .
