Bill O’Reilly To Address Critics Tonight Over Murder Of Doctor

Bill O’Reilly — who’s taking a beating for the jihad he’s waged against George Tiller, the doctor who performed late-term abortions and was gunned down yesterday — will address the killing and the criticism directed at him on his show tonight, a Fox spokesperson confirms to me.

O’Reilly has attacked Tiller in dozens of episodes, frequently referring to him as "Tiller the Baby Killer," Salon reports. After the news spread of Tiller’s murder yesterday, multiple critics fingered O’Reilly for fomenting a hate campaign against him.

I asked Fox spokesperson Richard White if O’Reilly had a response to the criticism. "Mr. O’Reilly will be addressing the issue/topic on tonight’s show," White answered.

9. I am so hoping...

...that some of the women come forward, who had these procedures done, and talk about their experiences. Women whose fetuses died late in the pregnancy, or who found out late that the baby had anencephaly, or some of the other reasons that a late-term abortion is medically necessary. Have them on the airwaves to talk about what their alternatives would have been, had there been no one available to perform the procedure.

I think it's about time we took the debate away from the hatemongers and, as happened with the Terri Schiavo case, remind people of the issues that happen to people in real life, apart from the bloviating bloodsuckers of the rightwing media.

16. It would take a lot of courage, to be sure...

...however, I don't think that the individual women who have had abortions are targets in the same way as the doctors and clinics who provide abortions are.

In any case, it seems to me that there are a good number of women who would have some very enlightening and wrenching stories to tell, that might help people understand why this procedure must be available. We have, in fact, had several postings at DU over the last year, of women who had the procedure or knew someone who did. It really puts the lie to the myth that the rabid religious right tries to promote, that somehow it is licentious, irresponsible women who go in for late-term abortions.

He is responsible for encouraging his viewers to be hateful towards Dr. Tiller. I don't know how he is going to separate himself from the murder when he spent 28 of his shows absolutely attacking Dr. Tiller. He used incendiary techniques to create an irrational sort of outrage among his viewers. I look forward to hearing whatever crap he is going to say tonight.
