Bad timing? Lemonheads founder Evan Dando sues GM for copyright infringement

LOS ANGELES – Lemonheads founder Evan Dando (DAN'-doh) is suing General Motors, saying the auto giant copied one of his songs for an ad.

Dando sued GM and advertising and licensing firms in federal court Thursday, claiming the automaker violated his copyright on The Lemonheads song "It's a Shame About Ray." The complaint alleges the song was re-recorded and included in a 2008 TV campaign for Chevrolets and Buicks.

Dando seeks damages and a portion of profits from the campaign.

GM, which sought federal bankruptcy protection this week, and the licensing firm Asche & Spencer Music, Inc. did not immediately respond to calls Friday.

2. Then maybe the US should sue him for inflicting his shit on humanity.
Maybe it's just me, but irrelevant talentless shit shouldn't be copyrightable.

I think what GM did with his "music" is precisely what he's done with real music - borrow it unethically for commercial reasons.

3. Don't know enough of his music to intelligently comment, but saw the Lemonheads once
I'm guessing early 90's, and was singularly unimpressed. Just looked em up in wikipedia though, and see that the Shame About Ray album was produced by the Robb brothers, who have always had a special place in my heart because of their magnificent Race With the Wind in 1967.

4. Too bad he'll be considered an unsecured creditor by the bankruptcy courts
Bankruptcy offers blanket protection for corporations.

Bankruptcy offers a handkerchief's worth of protection for individuals.
