This thread is more or less one about the impending switchover from analog to digital television in the US.
My concern about the switchover that no one in the mainstream media talks about is that what if you can't get ANY reception, even if you tried EVERYTHING. Getting lifeline cable is easy (if they don't try to upsell you first).
But is there a lifeline equivalent for satellite? The closest to it is DirecTV basic and Dish Network's Family package.
And what about those who do have a Digital Television (most likely a HDTV set) and has the same problem as one with a converter box? Is there a HD equivalent lifeline cable or satellite for them?
Family living in "where the fuck is that" Montana are so far from any TeeVee blaster and so far from any cable connect that they never had any choice but satellite. Those who are truly living too far off the grid for reception or cable have already gone satellite so that is not going to be an issue.
I live in suburbia and reception in my neighborhood on analog was horrid - we think because of the Atlanta Airport. As soon as Local only cable hit our street everyone signed up - some took the upsell. Now I see more dishes popping up (including my house).
