"It's On. We Don't Fly Around Problems"
Just saw a South West Airlines ad.

I'm flying them next month. I admire their fearlessness, but question their timing.

1. I've missed something that would provide context for that.

9. Sorry. DJ13 is right. That crash en route to Paris affects me
because it's so weird. And so many people died.

6. Great system, once the music stops everyone sits down and the ones left standing need a new flight

26. I assume it means...
...that they're going to take on the recession with their great prices, and beat it.

Bad timing, though.

27. Oooooh
I could not figure out "It's On". I figured the problem part had something to do with the economy, but "It's On?" Sounds a little juvenile to me. And actually a little scary if things are so bad they feel like they're in a fight. My sales are up a tad, I hoped we were at least in the vicinity of a corner.

8. Storms should be flown under, over or around, unless at take off or landing.
And even then, if there is wind shear, flights should be diverted until it is safe.

Wind Shear, too much ice, and storms are the main threat to commercial air travel.

20. they have a good record
Other than over shooting runways at Midway and Burbank. The one in Chicago killed a kid in a car, the one in Burbank everyone walked away. Stopped about 20 yards short of a gas station! Both airports are really tough landings. At Midway you can see what people are watching on TV during the landing.

24. I love SWA, and almost always fly them when I'm paying,
I've flown into Midway about half a dozen times and you ain't kidding, I'd hate to live there.

Coincidentally, I was driving (or rather trying to drive) up Vineland on my way to Mr. B's just after that plane overshot the runway.

16. Maybe not the best slogan
However, Southwest has an excellent safety record, primarily for the fact that they have a no-fly policy when there's any sort of questionable weather/mechanical issues.

17. No they don't.
I saw them years ago taking off during thunder/lightening storms. BUT! The do have an excellent safety record so far.

21. Perhaps I misunderstood the policy
However, they have a most excellent safety record. Ranked #2 and no fatalities ever:

22. This is only eyewitness experience, but
I worked for the FAA with a bunch of inspectors in the mid 90s, and they were the ones who marveled at the balls of the SW pilots. Rain, sleet, thunder, lightening, they prevailed, quite a few years ago.

I'm glad they're still doing their thing.

23. Maybe it's their choice to fly to smaller airports
All I know is blogslut jr and I have logged a hell of a lot of airtime on Southwest. Could be one of the flight crew told me that wee fabrication about the no-fly policy.
