In Iraq, Colbert gets military haircut to show his solidarity(also Digital Camo Suit)
Edited on Mon Jun-08-09 10:22 AM by RamboLiberal

Stephen Colbert high-fives a serviceman after submitting to a military-style haircut in Iraq on Sunday.

Stephen Colbert left no doubt about his solidarity with American troops when he taped the first of four Comedy Central shows he'll produce in Iraq this week.

Colbert, wearing a business suit made of the same camouflaged material used for soldiers' desert uniforms, submitted to a regulation military haircut as hundreds of U.S. troops cheered wildly Sunday.

The comedian, who satirizes conservative TV pundits on his "Colbert Report," began his "Operation Iraqi Stephen: Going Commando" USO tour Sunday in the Baghdad headquarters of the U.S.-led military coalition in Iraq.

"It must be nice in Iraq, because some of you keep coming back again and again," Colbert said, joking about the multiple tour many troops have had in Iraq since the 2003 invasion. Some troops had accumulated enough frequent flyer miles to earn them a free ticket to Afghanistan, he joked.

One Army major said that "shaving of the hair is an amazing show of support" that was "very touching."

3. Funny, isn't it, how it's almost always the liberals who entertain the troops
Sure, there are exceptions, like Toby Keith (apparently not as conservative as he portrayed himself to be in the early part of the decade) and Wayne Newton. But most of the entertainment is from the left side of the political divide. Senator Franken spent a lot of time in the Mid East entertaining the troops, too.

Y'know, as far as I can tell, Wayne Newton has not been all that politically active for years. But he has been a tremendous asset to the USO, which earns him a Secular Plenary Indulgence. Bob Hope had a similar story. But then again, they are of a different generation than the modern self-absorbed neo-Con.

But ... there are plenty of conservatives in entertainment. Why don't more of them give some time to the USO and our service personnel who had been so badly treated from January 2001 to January of this year -- ?

5. Pic of Colbert getting the cut

Comedian Stephen Colbert gets a military style haircut from General Raymond Odierno, Commander of the Multinational Corps, during the taping the first of four shows at Camp Victory in Baghdad

Sporting a camouflage suit and tie, TV satirist Stephen Colbert got a GI buzz cut from the top commander in Iraq and promptly declared victory in the war.

Colbert, taping Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" from Camp Victory in Baghdad, drew roars of laughter Sunday from the uniformed audience when his first guest, Gen. Ray Odierno, accepted a videotaped order from President Obama to shave the comedian's head.

Claiming the war must be over because nobody's talking about it anymore, Colbert announced that it was time to "officially declare we won the Iraq war."

The newly shorn Colbert then waded into the audience of mostly soldiers as the camera panned over for close-ups of the cheering troops.

6. I love you, Stephen
And I love that President Obama ordered General Odierno to shave Colbert's hair.

I will stay up till the wee hours of the morning in order to watch the replays of these shows. For the first time in a long time, I am sad that I no longer have satellite television.
