PITTSFIELD, N.H. -- A man and his daughter were killed in a fire in Pittsfield when the father rushed into the burning building in an attempt to save the woman.


Investigators said the father made it out of the burning apartment on 36 Main St. but ran back into the building to save his disabled daughter, who was still inside.

Neighbor Arthur Schillinger said he awoke shortly after 5 a.m. to the sounds of someone screaming.
"Him and his son ran back in to get the daughter out," Schillinger said. "The father made it into the house. The son didn't make it in."

The flames that prevented the son from entering the building may also have saved his life, firefighters said. His father and sister died in the fire.

Especially as people lose jobs, have to move into firetraps and rat breeding grounds, and try to survive. Thank you, Citibank.

The question I have is, when are people on DU going to become so jaded - when will these tragedies become as getting stopped for a speeding ticket - and people stop writing these posts? My guess is in about six months.

7. The fight was a fixer, for sure

A disabled adult, in a place with 1 bad exit, only rudimentarty/broken smoke detectors, no extuinguishers
(remember, I lived there!), and a gas heater from the 40's.
