Chocolate may be the antidote to Republicanism

There's a movie called "Chocolat" starring Juliette Bianche, Judy Dench and Johnny Depp. It takes place in a small town in France and is about a woman who opens a chocolate shop.

The mayor of the town immediately starts whipping up hatred against her for the "sin" she's brought to the town. After all, how can any decent human being allow any sweetness or a taste for goodness into their lives?

I saw it this past weekend on TV and I'm sure it will be on again. Try to catch it. It's a magnificent allegory about joy, love, hate and hypocrisy. It's also just a great movie.

1. And it's got Johnny Depp.
It's a good movie. My wife and I saw it a few years ago and enjoyed it immensely.
