RIGHT NOW: Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan protesting outside George Bush’s Dallas home.
DALLAS — Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan is as we speak leading a protest outside ex-President George Bush's home in Dallas' Preston Hollow district. The march is sponsored by the Dallas Peace Center. Protesters were said to be gathering at Preston-Royal at about 4:30 p.m.,then walking a mile to John J. Pershing Elementary School, across the street from Daria Place. - http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2009/jun/08/anti-war-activist-cindy-sheehan-protesting-outside/

I guess she didn't want W* to feel like he'd been forgotten.

1. Why is she protesting the person who doesn't have decision making ability anymore?
She should be protesting Obama, or at the very least Cheney.

...and it wouldn't have been appropriate. Why did he refuse to meet with her afterwords? Would President Obama turn down a meeting with a Gold Star Mother? Of course not!

120. I do not see that.......
I see a mother who has a dead child for no reason other than the fact that Bush lied and deceived until he had a war he wanted which had nothing to do with terrorism.

Yes, he has no more power to stop the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but he left a situation that it will take Obama and others perhaps years to clean up. The people of Iraq will never recover. The families of all of the slain American service men will never recover. Their blood is on many hands, but in the final analysis Bush and Cheney did the most to promote, continue and pursue a bloody, expensive and futile war. If she pickets anyone, why not them? They cost her the life of her son, and that will ripple through her family forever.

If anyone needs to be brought to justice for this and many other things including crimes against humanity it is George Bush. Do I ever think he will be prosecuted? No. It seems to expedient to let it be. Sometimes I wonder if we are the same country who helped define crimes against humanity at Nuremberg and later helped to frame the Geneva Conventions. George Bush degraded all of us. Cindy Sheehan was one of the first and one of the few to stand up against Bush and his policies publicly.

They should NEVER be allowed to forget the pain they caused others.

76. I don't think it has to do with the current commander in chief, folks...
... This may be an exercise in futility, or even remind some people of what the father of the slain waiter did by bringing suit and trying to bankrupt OJ Simpson . Those effected by the awful years of W still have no justice. Yes, each year that goes by doesn't necessarily bring back your son, and it may tear apart your family in the process.

On the other hand, perhaps Cindy is a wise choice for renewing a movement for continuous stalking and hounding the war criminals who now weave lies on the speaking circuit as they try to fabricate presidential "legacy". Who better to shit on that legacy than CS?

Don't judge. Just hope that 4,999 other parents of slain soldiers join her and they continue until the son of a bitch is prosecuted over what he took part in.

128. I don't think this message pertains to her right to protest.....
I do not see any particular "mentality". All I see is people commenting on her courage to stand up for what she thinks is right regardless of the consequences to herself.

Why does the action of standing up for what you believe in and facing down the huge force of evil (sorry, but no other word applies) that was and is the Bush administration invoke so much venom? It takes a lot of backbone to walk into a maelstrom knowing what could happen. She walked into her battle having thought she lost everything she could lose. Instead she lost even more. Her reputation among some people, her privacy and in many areas her credibility. To me she gained a great deal of status by trying to get people to open their eyes and see what was in front of them. She also wanted to save other families from the grief that hers was experiencing.

My mentality is simply that she exercised her right to air her grievances peacefully in acts of civil disobedience which harmed no one except for the political faction which worked overtime to bury the truth. Now they get to walk it seems, when they should do jail time. Cindy Sheehan and the other family members who lost a loved one will never be free again. She deserves both compassion and admiration for what she was able to do against all odds, not condemnation for what she was prevented from accomplishing by George Bush who has to be the worst president in history.

Edited on Mon Jun-08-09 09:27 PM by liteworker101
But I hear Microsoft's new Up-Yours-Google search engine, Bing.com, is good at shredding the impertinent data from the web and helping me find that link.
Their TV spots are jarring. You'll catch one tonight, I bet.

Thank you for the welcome. :hi:

As I am situated less than ten miles from Bush's current residence, I hear more about his comings and goings than some.

Dallas TV coverage of today's rally is good for bringing light to our befesterment by Dubya and the sincere need for his punishment, but Cindy brings baggage, and she may be more associated with Dallas/anti-Bush than I prefer. Multi-channel coverage today not only showed an equal amount of pro-Bush moranbots, but also represented the most local coverage his detractors have had after eight years of Dallas protests.

Bush was spotted a few months ago on a Saturday night at a local Mexican restaurant. He and Pickles left the place with a standing ovation.

God damn Dallas.

On edit: grammar etc.

97. May I please say something here...
Tjere is a lot of total bullshit being spread about her.

Her ego? She is down to earth and never comes across as an egotist.

However --- There are a lot of hangers on that have used Cindy to inflate their own egos.

Cindy had the balls to run against Pelosi - she knew she didn't have a chance but she also wanted to make a statement and let people know if they want to change how things are done they need to get off their asses and make it happen.

If you would be so kind as to provide a link to the article you read I would appreciate it. I would like a chance to see it and comment on it.

Please do not believe everything you read about Cindy - she is under constant attack by a lot of people trying to discredit her because she dares to ask for answers. Her pain is very real. Also her son, Andy is very ill.

There are people who are making things up about her daily - Out and out lies about her.

Edited on Mon Jun-08-09 06:25 PM by givemebackmycountry
The stupid monkey is responsible for starting the unnecessary war that got her son KILLED.

I would say that Cindy has an axe to grind with that m'effer and I hope she never lets him rest.

(edited to add:)

I'd be curious to know who it was that she ripped in that e-mail.
I'm wondering if it was Randi Rhodes?
Randi was a BIG backer of Cindy, had her on her show and gave her all the time she needed to get her message out.
Didn't Randi let Cindy stay with her for awhile and didn't Randi go to Crawford to sit in a ditch with her?

That would be my perception of a "big backer" but what do I know.

I too have read some stuff about Cindy but I dismissed it because everything that was written about her was pretty much negative.
I had heard that she had kind of went off the deep end and burned some bridges she should not have.

I'd like to hear more.
When she first burst on the scene she burned white hot for a while.
Then slowly they took her down and I must admit, she gave them a lot of help.

I still like her and I still admire what she did.
She made an impact.

27. Because what a criminal like him wants is to disappear.
Keep him in headlines, keep drawing attention, don't let it go away. I understand that part of it.

What we call "justice" in this country is driven in part by politics and so, by media. You didn't see the Justice Department going after people like Roeder before there was a hue and cry. It's about all we have.

It's so simple: his lies are responsible for her only son's death.

If you want to make a mother angry as hell, just do harm to her child(ren).

whose sister and brother in law were murdered, it only brought me some peace to see justice served. We fought long and hard to bring it about, even though we didn't get the penalties that we sought. Protesting out in front of the killer's home would not have done that. It might have initially helped my rage to harass and protest those responsible. But I needed to find some peace along the way to continue the rest of my life for my sake and the sake of my husband and children. I had to pursue justice and then find some positive, life affirming work to help me carry on in my life.

I have a son who is the age that Casey would be today and my heart breaks for Cindy's incomprehensible loss.

But I think that if Cindy's motivation is to deal with her anger as you suggest, I am sure that protesting W's house and hounding him the rest of his life will not serve her purpose. Has she gone to Washington and tried to speak with President Obama? He's the one in power. W has no power.

68. The sad thing is this.
I've talked to some people who are close to Cindy at protests, I remember once asking this woman if she knew about the website Democraticunderground.com. Her response? "Oh my yes, they are wonderful!" This was about two years ago when the Cindy bashing really started to ramp up here. I did't have the heart to tell her that half the site makes sport of dragging Cindy's name through the mud.

Every now and then she and whoever else she can fit in the clown car try to get themselves in the news.

I wonder if she still thinks the Democratic party is the "party of slavery" and at fault for every major war in the 20th century, or that Hurricane Katrina was just a "little wind".

I'll never understand why so many posters worship her.

There's very little "guts" to it anymore. Now, it's just a willingness to keep her name in the papers.

There is nothing bush* would like better than to slither off to *safe* obscurity, emerging out of his hole to "replenish the coffers." I do believe bush* has come to realize somewhat that he was used by the powers that be, and that ultimately the jokes are all on him. All ol' dubya wants now is what he always wanted: get fucked up and convince himself how grand he is.

Every last thinking person of conscience should be thanking those protesters--Sheehan included--for keeping in dubya's face and reminding the the little fuckhead just what a piece of shit he is.

Remember he's the "ne'er-do-well fratboy, big man on campus" that thinks everyone likes him. Remember when Consigliori Baker came bearing bad news from Poppy and the family? Baker told dubya how much he was hated. Junior was so geeked out, he was practically in a fetal position and sucking his thumb in the Oval Office. Cut to now: Pickles and Dubya are in Preston Hollow, the most wealthy GOP enclave in GOP North Texas. One would think that Dubya would be in his native element and out taking a few victory laps. But no. Many people expected the bush*'s to be part of the exclusive GOP North Texas crowd. But no. They, especially dubya, have kept to themselves. Dubya almost never ventures out. He is in hiding. All dubya wants is for the last 8 years to blow over and be quietly forgotten. And Cindy Sheehan and others, bless their hearts, have no intention of letting the little piece-of-shit off the hook, nor allowing a quiet retirement.

If I still lived in North Texas, I'd be protesting the fuckwad EVERY WEEKEND. I was virulently anti-bush* even before he was governor of Texas. I have followed his "career" passionately. And I hold him partially responsible for the worst Presidential administration in American history, and believe there is no doubt that he is a war criminal that belongs in front of the International World Court at The Hague. I will not forget and let dubya slither quietly away, and you shouldn't either.

Again, Thank You Cindy Sheehan!:kick:

I don't have to agree with or approve of everything C.S. has done to have respect for what she did back in the day when nobody was allowed to publicly criticize Bush.

I never did one hundred thousandth of what she did to try to wake up a dozing public. I gave money, signed petitions, wrote letters, called my reps and went on some marches. I never put my body on the line and I never opened myself up to the kind of public ridicule she's unfortunately had to endure.

What people don't seem to realize (despite the fact that she's very clear about this point) is that Cindy Sheehan doesn't care about Democrats vs. Republicans, she cares about what is right and just. And the reaction of the partisans to her protests says more about them than it does about her.

81. some of you bashing her seem to forget that before camp casey and on its heels katrina..there was no
media criticism of bush...she holds an honored place ...cant believe that anyone could sit at their computers doing nothing and sit in judgment...she didnt do everything the way some of you would have done it?..so what...she is not perfect?..so what...she did more to shine a light on evil darkness than hundreds, no, thousands of us...i remember the day she went to texas on that hot day in august..i read and watched here at du..it was the beginning of something big and i remain appreciative...remember folks, those days, when we had no voice?..when no one was reporting anything other than propaganda in the media..remember?...if she never does another thing in her life, she did enough to push us forward..talk about eating your own..this place is downright spooky sometimes..

127. And Cindy regulary trashes anti-war activists who do little more
then attend weekend candlelight vigils and won't put everything, including their jobs, friends and freedom on the line.

131. Did Cindy Sheehan stop the occupation and I missed it?
Who would have thought that all it would take is the actions of one career protester to end the war?

93. Good on her.
Good on her. Her son died as a direct result of Bush's policies, so I more than understand her anger at the man. I imagine that's more of a priority to her than an already dismissive audience petulantly telling her to get over it.

She has the courage of her convictions... and that's a rare quality.

of course THEY aren't doing it. They would rather just sit around and tell someone else how she should protest.

122. Good for Cindy and the others. W does not deserve one day of peace.
He took too many days away from too many others...tens of thousands of whom were children. That is a lot of days to compensate for. So whatever the rest of you think I say hallelujah that Cindy still has the energy to protest the mass murderer in our midst.
