1. He got those poor kids into that mess--he'd better be willing to show his chicken hawk face and
thank them for their service!

2. That was a nasty shock. I practically jumped off the sofa.
I'm sure the grinning mass murderer told some kind of joke but I didn't hear it. Found something else to do real quick.

6. They all have some 'blowage' rating
Occasionally Colbert steps close to certain lines. But when it comes to stuff like "should troops stay or several years more" -- the 'official' serious response is always "well, yes, of course we have to, the Iraqui people have come so far, and we need to stick around... (yadda yadda yadda...)"

The usual subversive nature of the show has been toned down so far it's a mere fuschia wash in watercolors...

7. Agree, just something about tonight seemed especially bad
Tons of soldier worship with the Bush thing. The NCO guy started the interview a tad over the line with the guns (to represent his large cock, no doubt), and then unloaded unchallenged douche-baggery for minutes straight. Yes, I realize his job was to appeal to the army's cannon fodder, but his bullshit about them being the "top 3% of American society" didn't sit so well with me. Thats straight out of the fascist playbook (a priori exaltation of the war time soldier).

8. well there were way TOO MANY inside jokes
as to what he said about the five percent... here is the inside translation to that line... since it is an inside armed forces joke and you missed it, and I cannot blame you for it.

Right now less than 1% of the population serve, and about 5% have any personal relationship to it. So the inside joke, is exactly that, we are the best since we are the only ones willing to serve. I call it a survival mechanism, but hey.

Oh and for a few MOS... pilot and nuke come to mind, those who quality are indeed among the top 5% of the population... due to the requirements of the Military Occupational Specialty.

What you saw was pure inside jokes to the troops Bob hope used to do the same by the by, and if you ever hear any of his shoes they had plenty of those same jokes that would not play well with civies. This was for the troops, primarily, not you.

9. Yes, I realize who its for.
I think Colbert did a great job skirting the line previously though and making it entertaining for everyone so I just expected the same. I understand what these tours are really about though.

10. I don't like putting war criminals on television.
It kind of lies about who they really are.

11. I'm surprised that they got him out of his vicodin coma for long enough to do that.
Must have given him some coke to wake him up.

12. He didn't ask Jimmy.
I was hoping there would be a musical act for the last show.
