von brunn's mother's family - connections
Edited on Fri Jun-12-09 05:57 AM by Hannah Bell
von brunn born 1920

von brunn's mom was born in st louis: hope wenneker:

her father = edward frederick wenneker, b. 1862, st. louis

http://books.google.com/books?id=MD8VAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA627&dq=wenneker+%22st+louis%22&lr=

he & his brother ran the family business, blanke-wenneker candy (blanke = grandmother)

blanke-wenneker = largest independent candy company in the west

ed's brother = charles frederick wenneker, born 1853, prominent missouri republican

http://books.google.com/books?id=MD8VAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA627&dq=wenneker+%22st+louis%22&lr=

http://books.google.com/books?id=8UUZAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA271&dq=wenneker+%22st+louis%22&lr=

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9B05E5DF1230E733A25755C0A9659C946397D6CF

(wenneker's apparently went bankrupt sometime after 1921...maybe the depression...maybe they wouldn't join the combine...)

CF was one of the organizers of the 1904 St Louis Fair,

http://books.google.com/books?id=K7BAAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA387

which means he likely knew George Herbert Walker...

David R. Francis, president of the exposition,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_R._Francis

was an associate & friend of George Herbert Walker's: e.g.

... and a beautiful young bride, Bert Walker took his place in St. Louis society. ... and Bert became a friend of up-and-coming pols like David R. Francis, ...

Likely they knew each other anyway, since both families had St. Louis retail businesses (Ely & Walker) & both were prominent in business, society & politics.

http://books.google.com/books?id=K7BAAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA387&dq=wenneker+%22st+louis%22&lr=

john scullin (scullin steel, where von brunn's father was general manager, was also one of the organizers of the fair:

http://books.google.com/books?id=K7BAAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA378

von brunn went to washington university, st louis (private university = $), "12th best & 11th most selective uni in the US"

same uni george herbert walker & david r francis attended.

1. omg. this is just pathetic.
tenuous at best and who cares? Howard Dean's family can also be tied to the bushes. so what?

Sometimes DU is beyond silly.

2. not as silly as you.
Edited on Fri Jun-12-09 06:16 AM by Hannah Bell
personally, i find it interesting that the shooter is the scion of a pretty prominent st louis family, attended a top-level school, & doesn't quite fit the DU stereotype of the dumb neanderthal winger.

scullin steel & other characters in the story connect to boatmen's bank, too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boatmen's_Bancshares

which, before it got bought out:

William H.T. Bush, younger brother of President George H.W. Bush, was president of the bank from 1978 to 1986.<3>

and scullin steel was making railroad couplings just like buckeye steel castings (sam bush/frank rockefeller), during the same period:

4. well, I've never bought into the "all wingers are stupid narrative"
but honestly what difference does it make that some of his forbearers MAY have known some of bushy's?

why would *anyone* care about some stranger's ad hom on a chat board?

i find it more interesting that a lot of these supposed wingnuts are from upper-class families.

william luther pierce was another one.

i guess they're the mirror image of the supposed left-wingnuts from upper class families like bill ayres.

whose brother is the big chicago charter school pusher.

22. More than a stretch, I'd say. That's a pity because...
... your dubious attempts at establishing guilt-by-family-association undermine a very important point you make later, namely that these assassins are rarely just right-wing neanderthals.

And even when they are, they often get high-level backing. Ask yourself where shooters like Arthur Bremer and James Earl Ray, for example, found the money to go gallivanting around the country and in some cases, the world.

27. Your post is based on the mistaken assumption that by noting the historic facts,
I'm drawing any conclusion but the ones I've stated:

1. GHW & the shooter's grandpa came from the same social milieu, and
2. Probably knew each other.
3. The shooter isn't a backwoods neanderthal.

Carry on.

28. Huh? I myself have been to Switzerland
Which must be a big conspiracy since I have only worked as a part-time janitor and a factory temp. Then there was my trip to NY in 1999. It's not that hard for a poor working person to do some travel.
