Kennedy excused by President Obama
I'm sure this little girl from Green Bay, Wisconsin, will never forget this day. Her father, John Corpus, was chosen to ask a question of President Obama at his healthcare town hall in Green Bay yesterday. During some light banter, the President offered to write a note for his daughter, Kennedy, to excuse her absense from the last day of school so that she could go with him to the town hall meeting. At which point, the President actually wrote the following note:

"To Kennedy's teacher," read the note, written in black ink over the president's distinctive signature. "Please excuse Kennedy's absence.... she's with me."

This guy has a habit of making it really easy to like him. Thanks for the warm fuzzy, Mr. President!

2. Most of the "newer" names these days are awful
Everything ends with "-ayleigh" or "-den".

In about 35 years most male politicians will be named Aiden.

17. Honestly I don't mind the name..
But it's becoming a problem these days. All of the Aidens are going to start ignoring their name soon, I bet they get sick of it when they start going to school.

Teacher: "Aiden!"
Half of the class in unison: "What?"

15. "Aiden" is a made up name. "Aidan" is not a new name.
It's been a name in Ireland for many centuries. "Aidan" is the English spelling of the Irish "Aohdan" (I think; don't have my Irish dictionary handy), which was an Irish saint. It's been bastardized by Americans. Frankly, it pisses me off. My son's name is Aidan, but I picked it (a long time ago) because it's a traditional Irish name.

Jayden and Rayden. Sadly, I attended Rayden's, 18 months old, funeral a couple of months ago. He died from SIDS.

19. Thanks. I noticed a mistake in my post...
The baby was 8 months, not 18. It was a very sad situation. In fact, the parents have separated. They're playing the blame game. My heart goes out to them.

18. My son heard that this morning and has decided he would like to
write the President a letter. He's just going into 4th grade and we're doing everything we can to encourage him to write over the summer. He actually would like to ask for a playdate with Sasha and Malia, but I told him that I would help him write something more appropriate. He's right between them in age.

I got the idea of writing to public figures when I was reading Biden's book and realized my son and VP Biden share a common friend. He was originally saying he couldn't write him because he didn't know what to write. I told him that he and the VP have the same friend, so he's decided to write.
