Are you willing to go to Prison for stealing Xanax?
This guy is:

Man Robs Grocery Store Pharmacy
Man Threatens To Shoot Randall's Pharmacy Employees

HOUSTON -- A man threatened to shoot pharmacy employees if they didn't hand over prescription medications, deputies told KPRC Local 2 Thursday.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said at about 3:50 p.m. on May 26, a man told two employees of the pharmacy at the Randall's store in the 16600 block of Champion Forest Drive that he had a prescription to be filled.

The man handed over a note demanding several drugs, including Xanax, investigators said.

Detectives said the note also stated that he did not want to shoot them, but he would. The man did not point a gun at the employees, but did show them one that was tucked into the waistband of his jeans, deputies said.

The employees feared for their lives and handed over the drugs, officials said.

The man was described as white, in his early 20s, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, 160 to 170 pounds with dark hair, dark eyes and he was clean shaven. He was last seen wearing a dark long sleeved shirt over a T-shirt, jeans and a black baseball cap.

3. It is insanely addictive
I used to do a lot of AA meetings at rehabs and the people coming down from xanax were often about the most screwed up.

prescription drugs ... and suffering withdrawal symptoms and/or emotional distress .. I don't think the first thing, or even the second thing on someone's mind is going to jail or not.

Desperate people do desperate things.

15. He knew if he has a gun they would give him drugs. If stores suddenly quit selling
nicotine, there would be some people pulling guns to get some.

It's the nature of addiction.

8. What an asshole.
I know addicted people do stupid things but it's hard to have sympathy for junkies when they threaten other people.

9. Maybe he has mental health issues.....
Our current broken medical system often sees people with psychiatric disorders end up in jail, because they can not afford a psychiatrist or inpatient treatment.

11. Xanax is nasty stuff.
Edited on Fri Jun-12-09 01:47 PM by juno jones
I had what my doctor later called a 'retrograde reaction' to it straight off the bat. After I had taken the rec'd dosage for a just a couple of days, It brought out a genuinely violent streak in me a mile wide. I realized very quickly it was the drug, sent my kid off to my parents and hibernated for a few days until the stuff was out of my system. Pot is far better medication for depression and anxiety.

Sucks that there is a contraband market for this stuff. Not everybody reacts to it the way I do, but it could trigger something nasty in someone who did.

Or perhaps it is just for his pet chimp.

14. No, I can go down to the mental health center and get 120 a month...
... they prescribe them like candy around here...

For me, when I take a xanax, it makes me feel just like I've smoked a joint... honestly, I prefer the joint

16. As one who is prescribed Xanax,
I do not understand why people abuse it. It really has no obvious affect one me. It makes me feel "normal".

Now, give me some Oxy or Percs and I could talk.

17. Some people will try to abuse anything
My sister went to a college whose social life is more or less defined entirely in terms of pharmaceutical abuse. If someone was diagnosed with an ailment - physical or mental - they would as often as not try to conceal the fact, because if it got out there'd be students sniffing around their bags/dorms/etc to steal some or all of whatever they were prescribed to take it themselves. She's bipolar, did not hide the fact, and had to put up with regular theft, people trying to buy "whatever you're taking," etc., for about three years. It didn't matter if the drug would have a recreational effect, or even if people knew what it was.

18. Well there are a lot of people who are prescribed Oxy or Percs and would
wonder how people abuse it.

All depends on body chemistry.
