When is DHS re-releasing Right Wing Extremism report?
Paul Krugman mentioned this report in his Op-Ed today about the right wing media winding up nutjobs:

"Analysts at Homeland Security fretted that things may turn out even worse than in the 1990s — that thanks, in part, to the election of an African-American president, 'the threat posed by lone wolves and small terrorist cells is more pronounced than in past years.'"

Sounds pretty damn accurate, but report has been withdrawn by DHS because some right wingers got mad about it.

Michael B. Keegan, President People For the American Way wrote a letter to DHS secretary Janet Napolitano today:

"In April, the Department of Homeland Security released a valuable report entitled 'Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment.' The report was met with outrage from right wing groups, many of whose activities were not mentioned or alluded to in the report, but who found protesting the report to be a convenient political stunt. With the support of sympathetic media outlets, these groups managed to exaggerate and distort the report’s findings.

Although the report was withdrawn with the intent of being rewritten, the events of the last two weeks show that its core findings are fundamentally correct: 'The economic downturn and the election of the first African American president present unique drivers for rightwing radicalization and recruitment.' The Department of Homeland Security is charged with protecting the security of all Americans, and it is essential for the American public to have the unvarnished truth about the rise of dangerous extremism in this country . . ."

What the hell is up with that? Is the government even allowed to arrest right wing terrorists anymore, or would that mess up the whole "post-partisan" utopia we're living in now?

1. I'm all for arresting terrorists...
But who are they?

Would you classify someone who goes to Church and is ProLife a terrorist?
Would you classify someone who believe the govt should adhere to the Constitution a terrorist?

I personally think that report was outrageous.

2. Yeah, just as outrageous as the one released on left-wing groups like ELF. I'll bet even money, you
never read a word of the report, but are echoing all those blattering idiots on Fox.

5. I was being a bit flip, but you know what I mean.
If Timothy McVeigh had just been arrested this past April, Rush and FAUX would be estolling his service in the Gulf War and denoucing the FBI as jackbooted thugs for arresting him. Then we'd have to have this whole "debate" about whether, although, blowing up buildings and killing innocent people is bad, the Obama admnistration policies just might have drove him to it, and besides, the left wing does it, too. etc.

4. They'll re-issue it with a June 2009 addendum
Titled "We Fucking Told You So, so shut up Rush, Sean, Bill and the rest of Fake Dudgeon Brigade."
