OMG! Obama tied to (gasp!) UNITARIANS!
I look at these far-right Web sites from time to time -- just to keep tabs on what the true wing nuts are saying. Usually, I don't link to them here, because I don't want to give them the "clicks." But this is so over the top that I could not resist. This is awful in more ways than I can get into here. What stands out for me is the implication Obama's past association with Unitarians is cause for suspicion.

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=101566

From the article:

While Obama's membership as an adult in the controversial Trinity United Church of Christ has received widespread media attention, almost nothing has been reported about his Sunday school attendance at First Unitarian, a far-left activist church that may have helped provide the president's initial political education.

First Unitarian, a member of the Unitarian Universalist denomination, served as a sanctuary for draft dodgers and was strongly tied to the Students for a Democratic Society, or SDS, during the time Weatherman radical Bill Ayers was a leader in that organization. The Weathermen was an offshoot of the SDS.

23. Agnostics and Athiests are welcome too.
The real problem the GOP has with the Unitarian church is that they encourage people to think for themselves rather than telling them what to believe.

6. We are Unitarian Jihad!
Jon Carroll
Friday, April 8, 2005

The following is the first communique from a group calling itself Unitarian Jihad. It was sent to me at The Chronicle via an anonymous spam remailer. I have no idea whether other news organizations have received this communique, and, if so, why they have not chosen to print it. Perhaps they fear starting a panic. I feel strongly that the truth, no matter how alarming, trivial or disgusting, must always be told. I am pleased to report that the words below are at least not disgusting:

Greetings to the Imprisoned Citizens of the United States. We are Unitarian Jihad. There is only God, unless there is more than one God. The vote of our God subcommittee is 10-8 in favor of one God, with two abstentions. Brother Flaming Sword of Moderation noted the possibility of there being no God at all, and his objection was noted with love by the secretary.

Greetings to the Imprisoned Citizens of the United States! Too long has your attention been waylaid by the bright baubles of extremist thought. Too long have fundamentalist yahoos of all religions (except Buddhism -- 14-5 vote, no abstentions, fundamentalism subcommittee) made your head hurt. Too long have you been buffeted by angry people who think that God talks to them. You have a right to your moderation! You have the power to be calm! We will use the IED of truth to explode the SUV of dogmatic expression!

People of the United States, why is everyone yelling at you??? Whatever happened to ... you know, everything? Why is the news dominated by nutballs saying that the Ten Commandments have to be tattooed inside the eyelids of every American, or that Allah has told them to kill Americans in order to rid the world of Satan, or that Yahweh has instructed them to go live wherever they feel like, or that Shiva thinks bombing mosques is a great idea? Sister Immaculate Dagger of Peace notes for the record that we mean no disrespect to Jews, Muslims, Christians or Hindus. Referred back to the committee of the whole for further discussion.

Although his ideas certainly lean that direction. I've kept a copy of his edited version of the bible for many years. Interestingly, A picture of Mary Magdalene hangs prominently in Monticello.

30. When my daughter turned 18 this year she carried thru with her "threat" to get a tattoo
Edited on Fri Jun-19-09 09:24 PM by rainbow4321
Being 18 and all, she could march right into any parlor and get one.
I was all ready to give my "whatever you get, make sure you won't regret it in 20 years, ok?"
Then she told me her first choice--and it was kinda hard to frown upon the upcoming tattoo after she told me:
She wanted (and got)a UU chalice tattoo on the top of her foot.

This is what she chose (same color but a little smaller size, of course, it's just on part of the top of her foot)

18. He said in his book that his grandfather looked into UU
That section of the book definitely caught my attention :)

http://www.uua.org/spirituallife/worshipweb/sermons/submissions/129680.shtml

Barack Obama was mostly raised by his maternal grandparents. Our Order of Service cover is a young Barack with his maternal grandfather on a Hawaiian beach. His maternal grandparents grew up where I did, El Dorado and Augusta, Kansas, a generation earlier. Their lives there sounded a lot like my own, “ordering Great Books through the mail.” Barack explains that his grandfather’s only adult “skirmish into organized religion, he enrolled the family in the local Unitarian Universalist congregation; he liked the idea that the Unitarians drew on the scriptures of the great religions. ‘You get five religions in one,’ he would say. My grandmother Toot would retort, ‘For Christ’s sake, Stanley, religion is not supposed to be like buying breakfast cereal!’ but if my grandmother was more skeptical by nature....her own stubborn independence, her own insistence on thinking something through for herself generally brought them into rough alignment.”

43. I love the logical train of conclusions...

SDS is also the first 3 initials of the South Dakota State University and their motto is You Can Go Anywhere From Here AND it is located in Brookings. Brooks are a local name for creeks or cricks and a crick is a pain in your neck so beware Obama!!!

44. It's just bullshit associative "logic"
God is love, and love is blind, therefore Stevie Wonder is God.

Does that sound silly? No more so than wingnut "logic", and really less so because they took it to a much more ridiculous degree:

Bill Ayers = Weathermen = SDS = UU = Obama.

Fucking morans.
